Brauhaus Joh. Albrecht is a charming, cozy brewpub that is visually striking and provides excellent food and drinks. It is located in a residential area a bit off the beaten path, but I think the short walk to get here is very much worth it. It is located on the grounds next to the historic Schmittmann distillery, which may be worthy of a visit in its own right. Anyway, after a parade of multistory residence buildings, it is refreshing to turn the corner and find the stand-alone 2-story pale yellow brewpub. It looks like a house with an attached conservatory. In front and along the side are several wood picnic tables surrounded by greenery. The semicircular glass-windowed extension connected to the main building has a metal roof, and showcase their shiny copper brewing vessels. When you enter the main building their wooden bar is in front and it has about 16 stools and rounded corners. In the center are shiny copper tap towers, and the working surface of the bar is covered in shiny copper too. The floor is brick tiles, the walls are decorated with faded brewery themed art, and the low wood beam ceiling is painted. Upstairs is their 2nd story dining room for when they get busy. Past the bar is the main dining room, and on the right is a small wood bridge leading to the conservatory. It has more dining tables and plants, and is separated from the brewing vessels by a small partition. Their 3 fermenters are located in the basement, and they have 10 bright tanks. They have a nice variety of 4 house beers on tap. Naturally in Dusseldorf they offer a nice Altbier, but my favorite was their Craftbeer Pale Ale. This place is the total package. The kitchen offers a few starters, soup, salads, sausages, sandwiches, and a great variety of meat and fish dishes. It is a very good menu. The staff is welcoming and attentive, and happy to help me translate my English. The place exceeded my expectations for beer and food, and I highly...
Read moreI had a negative, worrying and deeply upsetting experience at your restaurant today. As an expat living in Oberkassel and working in Germany, I was subjected to discriminatory treatment at your restaurant and it made me feel excluded. My German is only beginner level but I can speak German enough to order at a restaurant. I politely asked the lady who was going to serve us if there were any drinks that children could drink. I was just asking for some advice. She didn't understand me even though I repeated my question 3 times. Frankly, I can understand that. However, the attitude and tone of her voice afterwards, her reluctance to answer and her walking away from our table quickly before the children could order their drinks were incomprehensible. There were also German family members with us, so I asked them to be sure. I asked them if I had made a mistake or if I had just been bullied. Because if it was my mistake, I could have tried to communicate again and apologized. However, everyone agreed that the problem was that I did not speak German fluently and that your waiter's attitude was disrespectful. In a city with a significant foreign population, I would expect your business to be more tolerant and inclusive of non-German speakers. I am writing to you only because I feel obliged to share my disappointment and because I think you, as business managers or restaurant owners, should be aware of this behavior. I certainly do not want you to perceive this as a personal revenge, that is certainly not my intention. I trust that you will take this matter with the seriousness it deserves. I am writing because I hope that people in similar positions will not have to finish their meals quickly, with their appetites gone, and leave your restaurant as soon...
