Dampfe — Restaurant in Essen

I visited Dampfe Restaurant again after almost 10 years. I still remember how nice it used to be the atmosphere, the food, and the traditional German brewery vibe were all excellent back then. I was really looking forward to visiting again and enjoying the same charm.

But honestly, this time was quite disappointing. The place was extremely noisy and full of drunk people shouting like they were watching a football match. It didn’t feel like a restaurant anymore, more like a bar during a football night. We could hardly talk to each other because of the loud noise.

After just one beer, we decided to leave. Even the two tables next to us also left early; they couldn’t continue their meal either. It’s a pity, because Dampfe used to be such a great and relaxing place to enjoy good German food and beer with friends.

I understand it’s a brewery and people come to have fun, but there should be a limit. A restaurant should still keep a comfortable dining atmosphere. I hope the management looks into this and brings back the pleasant and friendly environment that made this place...

The restaurant is very good. The food menu has a lot of options and what we had was tasty. It is also very big and nice decorated. For the summer it has also prepared a place outside with many tables. I didn't get the chance to taste the beer because I was going to drive afterwards. Speaking of cars, it has also a big parking lot in the yard of the restaurant, so one problem is already solved. At 19:00 was crowded or even full, an reservation might help. For me it was sometimes a little bit too loud, but for that amount of people it is normal. Overall I would eat...

Eigentlich wollten wir nur in Ruhe eins von den genialen Bieren trinken und einen gemütlichen Nachmittag im Biergarten verbringen. Waren gegen 16:30 Uhr dort und haben einen Platz im Schatten gesucht. Aber leider entscheiden dort die lustlosen Kellner*innen wer im Schatten sitzen darf und wer sich eines Sonnenbrand Risikos aussetzen muss. Wir haben uns einen Platz (im scheinbar noch nicht freigegeben Bereich) direkt am Eingang ausgesucht und die Bänke selber zum sitzen gekippt und uns dort hingesetzt. Was für eine Frechheit von uns!!! Direkt kam eine uns als Stammkunden unbekannte Kellnerin und teilte uns mit, dass wir dort nicht bedient würden, weil das Personal noch nicht da wäre. Wir könnten aber zu den mittleren unbequemen 2-Personen Tische mit Sonneneinstrahlung setzen. Auf meinen Einwand, daß für uns Schattenplätze unabdingbar sind, antwortete diese junge (scheinbar ungelernte) Kellnerin, dass sie uns dann nicht helfen könne. Daraufhin sind wir dann lieber zu dem Griechen unseres Vertrauens gegangen und haben dort trotz Ausbuchung des Biergartens noch einen Platz im Schatten erhalten.

Ich darf nicht vergessen zu erwähnen, dass diese uns verwehrten Plätze beim rausgehen schon von einer Männergruppe ohne jeglichen Widerspruch belegt werden konnte.

Wir haben jetzt daraus gelernt und werden uns lieber an Restaurants halten die uns gerne bedienen. Wenn die Dampfe es nicht mehr nötig hat, alle Gäste gleich und mit Respekt zu bedienen, werden wir unser sauer verdientes Geld lieber dort ausgeben, wo wir auch zu zweit...
