Nice place, helpful employees also nice but rather small selection and the owner had some kind of nervous breakdown while we were there... or some woman i assume was the owner randomly told my wife she could not shop there after she had just walked in and looked at some of the makeup products; amiably talking to the owner at first and then suddenly out of the blue she went crazy and began repeating in a rather serious and unpleasant manner something to the effect of "this is too hectic i cant handle this you must go and come back tomorrow", to which we responded we live 2 hours away and were just here coming off an airplane flight... so she repeated her strange injunction (there were maybe 6-7 customers in the store including us I believe, it was actually rather empty, and closing within maybe 30 minutes). There were at least 3 other employee working there that could have been watching the store so to speak as well, so I don't really get the "this is too hectic, go away and come back later" thing, unless she really thought we might steal from them (which is truly laughable if you know us, but I guess i can understand when you're a non-chain-store in a big city; literally seeming to be a Mom & Pop place).
Obviously she can do what she wants in her store, but this is not the way to treat customers in the age of the internet especially. To put some perspective here, we have been to tons of bioladen, and love that kind of product; would shop at them all the time if we could. We were dressed nicely, and not playing around or messing up anything, so I really don't know if it was just a long/hard day or the lady has "issues", but both my wife and i have worked in sales and customer service (cosmetics, pharma and restaurants)...and we would never treat a customer that way.
I personally subscribe to the motto "the customer is always right". Obviously there are exceptions but it seems to me that the general idea of "worry less about rules and more about helping the customer" is especially important in The Information Age where everything is reviewed and recorded. I realize Germans are very fond of their rules and regulations, and older German women are known for being a bit OCD, but hey, my wife and i are both a bit OCD (and have German ancestry, among other NW European) and we don't jerk people around for no reason.
Have I offended any of you with my review? Good. Now you know how we felt the rest of the night, and probably will feel for the...
