Rude snarky service. Scamming and screwing over English speakers. Forgettable food with low QPR.
I just flew a redeye from Miami, took some morning meetings in Barcelona, and then arrived in Frankfurt in a daze. Just needed some food before falling over asleep. Walked in here for a rude awakening. I left awake and pissed.
Dead dining room at 7pm. Just a dead area. Wanting to make sure, I asked if they were still open for dinner, or drinks only. The server could have easily answered me, like a professional. Instead, he wanted to be a smartass, and said “look around.” And snickered. That should’ve been a clue right off the bat to leave.
I was tired, and didn’t care initially and just ignored it. Ordered food, ate it (forgettable, nothing special) and asked for the bill.
Bill came. It was wrong. But apparently because the server took the wrong order and charged me a higher priced item. He could easily have clarified when he took the order - but I suspect they purposely wrote two menu items similarly to trick people like this. Schnitzel with veal or schnitzel with pork. SMH.
Germans are notoriously cheap. Frugal… They figured out a long time ago that pork is just as good as veal for schnitzel. Most Germans eat pork when they get schnitzel because the veal premium is pointless. Hell, even the Austrians mostly get pork schnitzel in Vienna.
Putting a veal schnitzel on the menu, and naming it similarly as the pork dish, and pricing the veal higher - that’s an ultimate tourist scam! Got me.
Fine. Whatever. Then he got snarky when taking my credit card payment. Hamming my cards when I very clearly indicated I didn’t want him touching my (clean and disinfected) card. He had the nerve to make mention of “But the tip is not included! So, please…!” Tourist upcharge! Doubly!
Back to the food, nothing special. Portions weren’t all that generous for Germany. The (apparently) veal schnitzel was two small, very thin pieces. They smacked the hell out of that meat. The “meat salad”?? Strips of spam / bologna / mystery meat with barely anything resembling a salad on the plate. You get much better traditional German food at places like Zum Gemalten Haus, and much better QPR.
Back to Starnbarger, the Worst Haus. Avoid this wreck. A shame because this is a short walk from the Moxy. SMH. A waste...
Read moreIf you like to get a Bavarian Taste in the middle of Frankfurt, this is the perfect spot. The menu includes traditional Bavarian food and seasonal german dishes as well. The outside place invites for chilling together with your friends or family on big tables. Prices are fair and the food is fresh and cooked with love. To change some veggies were no problem at all. Staff was friendly at all times. After enjoying your meal the area invites to have a little walk at the main river. In my case also important that they are very dog friendly;) We always have a...
