There are at least two Seoul 1988 in Hamburg, and we find this to be one of the better Korean restaurants in town. We eat Asian food very often, including Korean food. This Seoul 1988 is located between Stellingen and Altona-Nord. The location is good, but not if you are driving as parking is very challenging in the area. Be prepared to walk if you bring a car. Taking the subway is a better option. There aren‘t many other restaurants around, and especially not Asian restaurants, so if you haven‘t reserved a table you might have trouble finding options if Seoul 1988 is full.
The interior of Seoul 1988 is very spartan and simple. There are about ten tables of various sizes inside the restaurant, but there is more seating outside in two tents (wintertime) with heaters, so you can comfortably sit outside even in the wintertime. The tables feature gas stoves in the center where you can cook traditional Korean dishes and meat.
The food is very good. We ordered (on several occasions) many dishes and were very happy with all of them. The servings are quite big, so you may not need to order as much as you do in other Korean restaurants. It is hard to pick one dish that is better than others as we were very pleased with everything we ordered. It takes quite some time for the food to get to your table when the restaurant is full. In addition, the cadence of appetizers and main courses doesn‘t work at all - you get food in a random order. This wasn‘t a bit issue for us, it was just confusing to understand if some orders had been forgotten or not.
The restaurant also features take-out, so you can order and pick up. We have used this a few times and were happy with the food, but they still use styrofoam packaging which really isn‘t okay nowadays.

Read moreI really liked this Korean restaurant. Only small difficulty we faced- booking the table. Neither English not German was easy , so when we arrived actually there was no table for us, but we still got one.
Food is really delicious, but my soup was a easy to spicy for me, and the portion is so huge that i couldn't make it till the end. During the dinner you constantly get renewed set of starters which taste great.
Service is amazing, personal there is very caring and helpful.
I really liked seats there, which is like a bin with a cap, so you can put there your bag, just don't forget it when you are leaving ;)
I will come there again.
Ps. Think twice to order too many dishes , there is a chance that you also cannot manage...
Read moreFood: 5/5 stars. Perhaps the most authentic Korean food I’ve ever had in a Western setting. They don’t whitewash their food, and the spicy level is like the motherland. Definitely recommend the ddeokbokki (spicy rice cakes, pictured) and the dak bulgogi (aka dakgalbi, not pictured).
Seating: 4/5 stars. This is because when we called to reserve the outside seating, they didn’t mention that the barbecue doesn’t work outside. We had visited to eat samgyeopsal (kbbq) like any normal customer would, but tragically we couldn’t and had to change the menu. 😢 The other menus were delicious, though.
Also, Hite is always better...
