Café Jérôme — Restaurant in Kassel

One star has reluctantly been given so I can post this review. My family had the misfortune to visit this cafe on 27th April 2023. In short, while there, we received exceptionally poor service which, it seemed may have been motivated by racist attitudes held by the waitress serving us. We desired to place an immediate order for coffee and cake, along with an order for a meal of salad to be served later to our mother, as she intended to stay on alone longer for rest and refreshment while we visited the attractions nearby. (A language barrier prevented her for making the order for later delivery herself.) The waitress serving us refused our request to place the additional order three times, despite our explanations; her manner was extremely rude and clearly conveyed disdain. This is easily the worst treatment I've ever received at an eatery. It marred our visit to Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe and was the low point of our time in German.

NB: I reported our experience in writing to management of the establishment. The reply received stated that the waitress who served us had not taken an ongoing position at the cafe and stated the owner did not tolerate racism. An apology was made, but also it was suggested our experience was that of unfriendly service only and our expectations of young wait staff were unreasonably high. I strongly refute both of the...

Same as the review from Nicola Forrest in April 2023. The waitress has racism attitude and very rude. There are 6 green colour sofas in front the counter. While we were ordering drinks at the counter my other family members were sitting on the green colour sofas, the waitress immediately said “Oh Nein!” that my daughter and family members were not allowed to sit there as she will get scolded. But later we saw two Germans were sitting there, we asked her why we were not allowed to sit there? she said too many people sitting there will be causing difficulties for her to serve us, but we were only 4 adults and 1 child. We think that her explanations make no sense and not exceptable. If the sofas are not allowed to sit then cafe owner should keep the sofas. None of the restaurants or cafes have the rights to restrict the customers to sit anywhere unless the restaurant or cafe are fully booked, but besides my family members there was no one. Human rights and racism issues should not happen in the culture palace and landmark of Kassel. Schloß Wilhelmhöhe should look into this matter, as the schloß Wilhelmhôhe is a tourism place.any Racism staffs only tarnish the image of Kassel and the culture palace. Meine Partnerin und ich haben das Café durch Zufall entdeckt, als wir das Schloss Wilhelmshöhe besichtigt haben. Nachdem wir die Galerie im Schloss besucht haben, sind wir noch auf einen Kaffee und ein Stück Kuchen dort eingekehrt.

Gut fanden wir: Die Bestellung wurde schnell aufgenommen Es waren ausreichend Sitzmöbel im Außenbereich aufgestellt Tolles Ambiente und doch eine größere Auswahl an Gerichten und Kuchen

Nicht so gut fanden wir: Das Handwerk hat man bei den Kuchen erkannt, jedoch waren unsere zwei Sorten geschmacklich doch ehr durchschnittlich (Baiser und Eierlikör) Der Kaffee hat uns beiden leider nicht geschmackt, bitter und verbrannt (evt. die Bohne und die Einstellung der Maschine) Kuchen und Kaffee kamen nicht gleichzeitig, sondern mit 5 Minuten Verspätung

Der Grund, warum wir den Aufenthalt in Summe nur mit zwei Sternen bewerten liegt daran, dass durch den sehr süßen Kuchen Lust auf eine Bratwurst bestand, welche nur 10 Meter von der Bestuhlung gegrillt und verkauft wurde. Die Wurst stand nicht auf der Karte, weshalb eine am Stand gekauft wurde. Die anderen Gerichte waren nicht ansprechend in diesem Moment und der Gerucht hatte schon sein übriges getan.

Als man mit der Wurst dann Platz nahm, wurde man von der Kellerin sofort darauf hingewiesen, dass man die Wurst nicht am Tisch essen darf, weil man ein eigenes á la carte Geschäft hat. Der Hinweis war zwar freundlich, jedoch nicht hilfreich, da die Wurst ja schon gekauft war und man diese am Platz mit der Partnerin genießen wollte, die noch Kaffee und Kuchen hatte. Also blieb nichts anderes übrig als den weiteren Kaffeebesuch getrennt zu verbringen - schade!

Ein wenig kann man diese Politik nachvollziehen, allerdings wäre es nur Kundenortientiert, wenn man Besucher vorher darauf hinweist, dass die Wurst nicht an den Tischen konsumiert werden darf. Man könnte auch die Wurst oder etwas Gegrilltes mit Gerichten verbinden, die man am Tisch serviert.

An sich war die Anmutung der Bestullung nicht so hochwertig, als das man an diesem Standort eine Zwei-Klassengesellschaft hätte rechtfertigen können. Dies ist auch nicht zu begrüßen und passt auch nicht wirklich in das Ambiente und zu den Besucher*innen. Würde man hier besser mit Umgehen und Kommunizieren, wäre der Aufenthalt...
