Hofbräu an der Wilhelmshöhe — Restaurant in Lingen (Ems)

I was very exited to visit an experience local cuisine by visiting Höfbrau an der Wilhelmshöhe, located in Lingen, Germany during my weekend gateway. I should say it is a delightful Bavarian-style restaurant that offers an authentic experience with a few caveats. The food, while generally good and generous portions, overall it tends to be somewhat blend. Also the draft beer selection is limited and lacks the hoppy flavor that many beer enthusiasts look for, especially when visiting Germany. Additionally, the restaurant gets quite crowded on weekends, leading to slower service.

During my visit, I was seated next to the kitchen door and noticed an interesting phenomenon. The entire kitchen staff appeared to be first-generation African immigrants, diligently cooking, cleaning, and running the kitchen. It was a pleasant surprise to see such a diverse team in a Bavarian restaurant, contributing to the delicious food options available. Where do I start here, I had high promises.

The chicken burger had a mango chutney inside which totally didn't fit the tomatoes and type of bun. The potato chips on the other hand were one of the best I've had.

The schnitzel was really boring, and way too thick, together with the fried potatoes the dish became a boring meal if you compare it to the dish from Vienna, lacking in flavor and crispiness.

Now the Spätzle with Hoaxes meat. Usually something very delicious in a beautiful fit with red cabbage, but at this location adding krupuk (prawn cracker) felt so missed in place, as well as the small weirdly shaped tomatoes. The harmony of the dish didn't fit together to this salty (slightly over salted) hoax pan.

I can recommend the Stiegl Beer, which had a nice sweeter note to traditional beer you would find in northern Germany.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience for such a beautiful ambience inside this forestry style. For eating the potato chips, I'd probably come back, the rest needs...

Ein Restaurant mit Klasse. Wir gehen da immer wieder dorthin und wurden noch nie enttäuscht! Reservierung geht wie telefonisch, so auch Inline-sehr bequem. Das Restaurant befindet sich in idealer Lage- in einem kleinen Park. Daneben sind ein Kino, ein Theater, Biergarten und Spielplatz für Kinder zu finden. Wenn man Sitzplätze auf der Terrasse reserviert, hat man dann auch sehr schönen Ausblick auf das Grüne. Das Personal ist immer sehr nett, kommt regelmäßig um nach weiteren Wünschen zu fragen, arbeitet schnell- wir fühlen uns da immer sehr wohl.

Die Speisekarte ist nicht zu groß, nicht zu klein. Man findet da immer rein bayerische Gerichte, denn das ist nun mal das Thema des Restaurants. Dann gibt es da immer saisonale Gerichte wie z.B. im Herbst gab's Gerichte mit Pfifferlingen oder im Juni gab's da Spargelgerichte. Daneben gibt's es paar Gerichte wie z.B. Curry, die zur ausländischen Küche gehören. Das Menü ist also so gewählt, dass wirklich jeder was für sich findet-auch Vegetarier. Wir haben jetzt da mehrere Gerichte probiert, da war Curry dabei und Burger und fast alle bayerische Gerichte und saisonale und die waren immer absolut köstlich und wunderschön angerichtet.

Portionen reichen absolut aus um auch Männer satt zu bekommen, aber so dass die noch gehen können und nicht rollen;) Zum Essen dazu kann ich nur jedem empfehlen Salzbrezeln zu bestellen. Die sind so lecker, mit Butter durchtränkt, die muss man probieren!

Das Dessert ist ein weiteres Muss. Ja das muss sein...auch wenn man nicht mehr kann. Jedes Dessert ist da köstlich und ein Kunstwerk auf dem Teller. Die Getränkeauswahl ist da recht groß: Bier, Wein, Shorts usw alles da. Wir können dieses Restaurant absolut und von ganzem Herzen weiter empfehlen: ob Lage, Bedienung, Essen,...
