Service - friendly, fast, English/German speaking Food - reasonably priced, good quality Beverages - reasonably priced, good quality Ambience - typical Indian style
We visited Taj Mahal in July 2015 with a group of eight. After frustrating experiences at "Domherren Café" and "Ben zi Bena", we finally got here in a miserable state (very hungry and thirsty). The Indian waiter welcomed us warmly and arranged quickly a table matching our group size. The German-English menu covers a variety of typical Indian food and beverages. Notably, it comprises a selection of vegetarian main courses which can also be prepared as vegan upon request. Appetizers came after 10 minutes, main courses were served simultaneously after 25 minutes. All dishes from "Allu Gobi – Masala" (potatoes and cauliflower fried in curry sauce) to "Lamm Tikka" (pieces of grilled lamb in Tandoori marinade) were to our full satisfaction: spices well balanced and hot as declared, meat texture appropriate to grill or stew, marinades matching the meat, sauces varied and fresh, sufficient quantity of main as well as side dishes, presentation appealing. When visiting Merseburg again, we will certainly step by at Taj...
Read moreGood Indian food, pretty famous in Merseburg. The first time we ordered Mutter Paneer and tadka dal, along with pakora and vegetarian samosa. Also, chaas and mango lassi along with it.
The samosa and pakora were good, but the samosa felt a bit different than the one I am used to. Still good enough. Would be nice if it was offered with green spicy coriander chutney!
Mutter paneer and dal were also good. But it comes with 2 portions of rice, and that was more than enough for 2 people. We ended up being very full with that much amount.
The lassi is also very thick. That also made us full pretty fast.
If you have a small appetite, better to go for 1 dish along with roti.
The second time around I ordered Jheenga chili (prawn chili) along with chicken pakora. The chicken pakora literally felt like I was eating the chicken patty in a burger. I was expecting more than that. And the prawn chili was tasty, but a bit too salty...
Read moreVery friendly staff who spoke English and everything in the menu was in English and German.
Had the prawn pakora and lamb bhuna, with garlic naan. The pakora was a little too thick on the batter for my liking, but the prawn was nice. Lamb bhuna was very tasty and the meat was really tender - it was also very well spiced, spicier than any other curry I've had in Germany.
Reasonably priced, although due to the size of the meal, I had to ask for the rest to takeaway, however, when I opened the package there was not even half the curry that was left and mostly rice (again, not all that was remaining) and the naan bread. Pretty disappointed by that, although next time I wouldn't bother with the below par pakora and go straight for the curry.
I want to rate this place 3.5 because of that, but I've rounded up to 4 as it's not possible. Like I said, the curry was...
