Alter Wirt Moosach — Restaurant in Munich

Loved this place. We saw negative reviews but were a little short on other options on our two night stay in Moosach at the end of a ten day German holiday for our 25th wedding anniversary. It looked nice when we saw it in person so we thought we would try anyway and it was great.

Friendly staff and great service in our experience on both of our two nights. Food was great, my wife is vegetarian and had two of the three fully vegetarian choices for our two visits and loved them both. Both of my meals were lovely and the portions are big too. We were provided with an English menu without even asking. Our experience of Munich in general was of most things being over priced and service often being a little unfriendly compared to the rest of the country but Alter Wirt was great service and felt good value for delicious food.

If you want to pick fault then, yeah okay, if you are looking for a traditional authentic German restaurant there's a slight lack of that due to the amount of tourists that use Alter Wirt but, seriously, it's a great choice for eating...

We called ahead to reserve the table since it's a holiday and Corona situation.

Location : 10/10 easy to reach, near bus and tram stop and only few mins from bis underground station

Hygiene : 10/10 there are stable and steady transparent acrylic wall between tables. Table, inside areas including WC were clean and they also provide disinfection spray in several spots.

Food : 7/10 we were a group of 6 persons so we ordered varieties of food. I really wanna love the food. But there were just too salty. I know German food are salty but this is beyond of what I would expect. The Knödel were small and not soft. All the food were already cold when they reached the table.

Service : 5/10 waitress wasn't friendly (even in German standard of less friendly) wrong summery of what we supposed to pay. (could happen, yes. When I told her, then she returned the amount minus 10%? And walked away?? At this point I was so full of this so we just got out as fast as we could)

I’ve been to Alter Wirt Moosach more than three times now and every visit has been a hit. The food is consistently delicious and it’s one of my favorite places for a proper Bavarian meal.

It’s also the perfect spot for a Bavarian breakfast, especially if you want to start the day right. The Wiener Schnitzel is amazing, crispy and full of flavor. I’ve also tried the surf and turf, absolutely worth every penny. The house-made Käsespätzle is super creamy and comforting, and I highly recommend it. The Zwiebelrostbraten is really good too. Tender meat, rich sauce and just the right amount of crispy onions on top.

The place is beautiful, with a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The service has always been good and everyone working there is friendly and kind.
