I think this was one of the most overrated overhyped restaurant I have come across in Munich. I understand the concept of Korean BBQ where you have to probably cook yourself, but this next level! We only saw chicken being marinated, but no other meat was marinated. They DON’T EVEN SEASON ANYTHING!!! So what is the difference between this and my home cooking? I can sear a piece of Salmon steak at my home too. So here’s the service part. We kept asking for salt, there was none given to us. It came at the end of dinner when we were all done with eating. They charge 35 eur for 300 grams of meat/fish which isn’t seasoned, and only some are marinated. I shouldn’t need to do the cooking by paying 35 Eur when I am at a restaurant, and this does not include any drinks. Also for people who want to enjoy dinner with family / friends, this isn’t the place. It does not let you have a conversation as you are only occupied cooking. If you don’t pay attention, you will burn your food, as we did. After spending 2 hours cooking, we realised that the friends who are meeting after 3 months did not talk at all. And when we got busy with meaningful conversations, we burnt our food. So be sure for what you are going here. May be a team event is still ok. But the price you pay for this , it’s so...
Read moreChagiya is part of the Ledu universe which operates some of the most popular restaurants in Munich, for example Seen, Chois, Ya and Jianbing. As a Korean grill restaurant, it offers decent value-for-money given the competition, however, as another review pointed out, certain meat is served not seasoned. Hence, the sauce and dips need to be uniquely delicious to justify doing it in a restaurant instead of searing the meat at home. Unfortunately, the sauce here is a bit underwhelming in flavors and has tiny portions. As an already popular restaurant, Chagiya is clearly understaffed. At dinner hours it's also quite loud inside. Good Korean grill restaurants in Munich can easily go beyond 50€ per person especially when one orders the premium cuts or Wagyu from the menu. When one is already thinking about going to a grill specialty, will s/he be thinking about paying 10€ more for Wagyu and better dips? Very likely. With better selection of meat and especially better service, it could be one of the leading grill houses. I see a lot of potential in this setup. Think about when Seen and Chois just started and how they flared among competition. As of now, Chagiya is not as strong as...
Read moreA very good Chinese Korean-style barbecue, which is important to know because if you're looking for an authentic Korean BBQ, this is not it! Many of the side-dishes have a Chinese accent to them (they're delicious and you can get a free side-dish refill anytime) and even the Kimchi, albeit very good, doesn't quite taste like it does in South Korea.
The meat is... good. Better than simply "ok", but not amazing, either - good texture, but no special discerning taste. Good with the dips provided with the menu.
The restaurant offers quick and friendly service as well as a pleasant atmosphere with the caveat that the smoke exhausts don't seem to work very well. Seeing as how there's no system to store jackets/sweaters (hollow seats, for instance), one should accept the fact that one's clothes will be smelling like BBQ for some time after the visit.
All in all a very...
