My wife and I found this place by accident. We intended to take a trip to Hallstatt, Austria, but all the trains were booked, so we had to get a hotel room for another night in Munich, because our original one was completely booked. This was during Oktoberfest. So we were both disappointed and defeated, feeling like we were wasting time when we had planned to be elsewhere, and found ourselves in an extravagant hotel, far away from the neighborhood we had explored for the past four days (we were in Maxvorstadt area). We hung out in our hotel most of the day until we got hungry, and pulled up Yelp. This place came up, we read some reviews and said "this is where we should go."
We got there, and the place was tiny. Maybe five tables or so. This wonderful older German woman dressed in a traditional Bavarian dress welcomed us to sit at a table, then proceeded to translate the entire menu for us, patiently. Even when we couldn't remember what certain dishes were, she never lost her patience. She was the most graceful hostess I've ever encountered at a restaurant. After we placed our orders, I realized she was managing both the tables and the bar, all by herself. I could hear the chef (her husband, maybe?) in the back, pounding out schnitzel with a meat tenderizer. Occasionally she'd disappear into the kitchen, and come back out, serving incredible looking plates.
Forgive me for not remembering the proper German names, but I had ordered a schnitzel (not breaded), stuffed with Bavarian ham and feta, and covered in/sitting in a pool of "dark beer sauce." My wife ordered a schnitzel that was breaded with mustard and horseradish. Both of our meals were so good that we were almost driven to tears. You don't have to pay $100 euro/dollars a plate for an excellent meal. The food here, and the service, is done with love. It's reasonably priced, the decor is very welcoming and homey.
We spent two weeks in Europe for our honeymoon, and ate meals in three different countries, but this is one I will never forget. I hope some day to return, or to be able to make something similar to what this two-person crew was able to serve us....
Read moreI came with my family who was visiting me from France. We had the most lovely time!!! Everything was perfect, from the food, the typical bavarian atmosphere and of course the delightful service. Going to a bavarian restaurant, very much outside of the city and definitely not touristic was worrying for me as I do not speak a perfect German. I was scared do be not well received because of it, as it can often be the case in the city... But the two owners completely blew away my worries and showed the most patience and kindness I have ever seen in Munich. It was just amazing. I would choose to come again and again when I want a delicious bavarian meal. It was the highlight of my family's stay in...
Read moreI’m not a “Karen” by any means. We were “greeted” outside by an older man that worked there shouting at us for riding a scooter to this place before we even stepped foot inside. We were wondering if we did something wrong and we asked him to explain well as we placed them exactly where all of the other scooters and bikes were. Well, his screaming was because the scooter was literally half an inch away from where he wanted it—on a public road, mind you. We tried reasoning with him and he insulted us nonstop. I get that maybe this is a locals place; but getting screamed at, our first experience in our long trip, is mind blowing. Maybe he has a...
