Sometimes you come across the crown jewels when you travel. It's a combination of a good place to stay, good food, and interesting things to do. The Stadt Aachen hotel is one of those gems that shines in the Saale-Unstrut river valley. The Hotel Stadt Aachen is centrally located in Naumburg on the plaza town center. It is small and quaint but the hotel has a big heart. Very friendly staff are more than helpful and obliging. The double room had beds slid together to make a king size and the spacious room also had a daybed couch, desk/chair and wardrobe. The bath was split into two rooms (two sinks) and it sure sped up getting ready for the day. The room was quiet, spotless, hot water heat, and a small TV with basic cable service. Price was very reasonable and a good value with the full breakfast included. There is an elevator and entrance to the front desk is from the side of the building.||I had emailed the hotel to assure bikes were available and they were there as promised. The area along the river is perfect for a bike ride past vineyards and to a castle (about 10 kilometers) for lunch. The area also has camping, canoeing and kayaking. The village also has a couple of churches worth touring, one having a organ of note. In September the 27th 1746 J.S. Bach und Gottfried Silbermann examined this new big and fine organ. In 1748 the son-in-law of Bach was the organist of the new Hildebrandt organ.||The city is still partially walled and makes for a nice walking tour. ||The hotel restaurant is full service and reminescent of candlight dining in a wine cellar. Some tables look out on the main plaza and local wines are served from the vineyards in the valley.||A short taxi ride from the train station (5 Euro) into the city center to the hotel. Settle in for a fun time in the former East Germany town of Naumburg-Saale.||THey have a website with English...
Read moreOk. I think I actually was staying in the Hotel Stadt-Nah this time, not the Hotel Am Bahnhof. They are "sister" hotels. I made my reservations with Am Bahnhof but my room was actually around the corner in the StadtNah since the Am Bahnhof is being renovated. So, I'd like you to consider my comments under the "Hotel Am Bahnhof" for the StadtNah. This is a great bargain hotel with clean, tastefully decorated rooms with strong wireless internet. Great shower. Very good breakfast and great location--only steps from the Bahnhof and within short walking distance to the old city center, on major bus lines too. Little restaurants, internet cafes and shops all over. I had a very good dinner at Da Salvatore just across the street. Great for the business or leisure traveler looking for dependable basics and traveling by train. Easy to make...
Read moreI have spent the week here in Naumburg and stayed at this hotel on the marketplace. The location is ideal, right in the middle of town. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The room is comfortable and quiet. It is also on the big side considering that this is Europe. The price is good and includes a breakfast buffet which is generous even if repetitive. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner and the food I had there was all good (except for one fish which was tasty but slightly overcooked). ||Two downsides for me: no coffee/tea in the room and no free internet connection. ||If I have to come back to Naumburg, I will be staying here again. I am checking out tomorrow morning and don't anticipate any problem. But if there is, I will write a...
