Cortina Oberhof — Restaurant in Oberhof

Charming and beautifully designed restaurant with a lovely outdoor terrace. The warm wooden tones paired with the natural table decorations exude an inviting and cosy atmosphere. This restaurant was designed with love, and one can see that every single detail - from the cow bell lamps to to the outdoor heat warmers - was thought through.

The service was professional, efficient and polite, and gave the feel of being in a higher class restaurant. The menu, whilst prettily designed, was not easy to read: too many pages and extra text in addition to the dishes.

All drinks were served in crystal glasses, from sprite to apple juice to water. Whilst the food was beautifully plated, sadly the taste of some of the dishes did not match their appearance. The Kaiserschmarrn lacked in caramelization and was underbaked, thus not light and fluffy. The spinach dumplings (Knödel) were tasty, but the butter topping and clarified butter sauce were just far too heavy. So much so that neither of the two persons with that dish could finish the portion.

However nice the experience and the atmosphere, the prices are just incredibly expensive and not justifiable (e.g., 24€ for a small salad with a few chicken strips, or 19€ for three...

When after a whole day of hard cycling we saw that pizza was available nearby, we did not spend too much time examining the details. This was a mistake. The nice decor we observed during approach told us that the food will be much fancier and will come in much smaller portions than our stomachs were yelling we needed. It was too late though, with our legs refusing to carry us anywhere else. The second disappointment came when it was time to sit - since the place was popular, the only available table was outside. Despite the provided blankets we were chilly the whole time, so more warming lamps would be nice.

Overall, the place provided exactly the type of service it offered, so it is only on us for not realising this earlier. The food was very good and the big cake portion helped to appease us. We also liked the sugar stones that were generously provided with tea and very tasty.

However, for cheap and cheerful meal after hard physical activity do look...

Ich kann leider keine volle Punktzahl vergeben. Ambiente und Service waren bei unserem Besuch super. Wir waren leider mit dem Essen nicht so sehr zufrieden. Erster Kritikpunkt ist für uns die mangelnde Auswahl für Kinder, da es keine Pommes mit Nuggets gab. Das klingt vielleicht ein wenig banal und ist natürlich eine bewusste kulinarische Entscheidung. Aber für uns nicht nachvollziehbar. Dabei geht es keineswegs darum, billiges Essen zu servieren. Auch Pommes und Nuggets lassen sich hervorragend selber machen, wobei dann die Liebe zum Kochen am Produkt trotzdem zu sehen ist. Fakt ist jedenfalls, dass es so gut wie jedem Kind schmeckt und die wenigstens etwas auf der Karte finden, was sie essen. Die angebotenen Alternativen waren Rote Beete-Gnocchi sowie eine Salami-Pizza. Die Gnocchi fielen aufgrund der Farbe bei den Kindern leider schon durch und wurden leider nicht angerührt. Bei der Pizza hat man wohl besondere Salami verwendet, die durch ihren Geschmack ebenfalls nicht gut angekommen ist.

Der zweite Kritikpunkt waren die beiden weiteren Hauptspeisen, erneut Pizza (ich glaube Lachs und Rinderfilet). Beide Pizzen waren geschmacklich nicht abgestimmt. Für meine Pizza (Rindfleisch) kann ich nur sagen, dass der Parmesan viel zu dominant war. Das fiel besonders auf, da daneben das Rindfleisch (super zart) und Tomaten fast geschmacklos erschienen. Die einzelnen Komponenten sind sicher sehr hochwertig und die Preise vielleicht auch gerechtfertigt. (Jeder soll auch was verdienen.) Aber wenn ich für 120€ für 4 Personen zu Abend esse, möchte ich das es auch allen schmeckt. Das hat uns leider allen gefehlt.

Wir sind keine Urlauber, die einmal essen und vielleicht nie wieder kommen. Wir wären in 15min vor Ort. Das Interesse an einem weiteren Besuch ist jedoch...
