Terrible service - utter disrespect for guests.
Together with our child and our guest we wanted to have lunch at this restaurant. All places outsides were occupied, but inside half of the tables were free. There were no signs that they were reserved. We occupied one table, and waited for about 10 minutes for anyone to take our order. Then a head waiter, or whoever he was, appeared and asked us to leave the place, because our table appeared to be reserved. The waiter could not answer my question, why there was no sign on our and other tables that they were reserved before. When I asked whether i could speak to his manager, the waiter offered me to find his office in the house. But following his directions, I have found a door... to the bathroom. I speak German, so it was not the matter of misunderstanding. It was difficult for us to explain our child, why we could not have our lunch there and must have leaved. We live in Potsdam for 5 years, and this was the first time, when we experienced such disrespect, where we never expected to find it. People in this restaurant working in such a way with tourists and guests of the city just scare them away. It's a shame!
I will not recommend this place anybody. Ever. Go to one of the cozy Italian restaurants in the city's...
Read moreBeautiful location within the park, surrounded by water and history. Visited in the winter and the place was not full, and contrary to some reviews, service was friendly and professional. Could it be it’s busier in the summer and more chaotic? Food is authentic German-Soviet cuisine, keeping in the spirit of its environs and DDR history. Some of the waitresses even spoke Russian. Food was better than expected, though perhaps we were expecting worse given previous reviews. But you don’t come here for the food.
They make their own beer and we enjoyed the “Bierbrett” - a flight of four of the house-made beers, all, excepting the sour Weiss, good.
So, anywhere else I would give 3 stars, but 4 solid stars here for the unique combination of location, views, history, excellent renovation and homemade beer. Maybe not worth a special trip but if in the area quite...
Read moreIt's a shame the beer here is so good, really, because the service is nothing but rude. Not just "unfriendly", but downright rude. We came here at the end of a holiday in Berlin because we wanted some nice German beer by the lake.
I ordered two drinks and paid, but then the lady at the till started pouring the wrong drink. I tried to tell her she'd got it wrong, but she insisted "you didn't order a red Berliner Weisse" (I had). I get that I'm a tourist, and that my German isn't brilliant, but she insisted on pouring (and charging me for) the wrong drink. I had to pay again for the drink I actually wanted.
Bottom line: Don't bother coming here. The beer is good, sure, but it's not worth it for the rudeness of the staff, especially if you're not a native German speaker. There are far better bars/cafés to...
