Belvedere Castle on the Pfingstberg — Attraction in Potsdam

Belvedere castle was calm and mindful in both ways to inner self and outside world. The small pond gives you time for reflection and calming vibe, surrounding walls protect you inside, and the view from the top makes you think and see the world from different point of views. The little exhibition about local people and lives from 1945 to present keeps you interested in the area and the castle. My favourite story was the butter and fridge in 1947, that butter was too expensive and the family exchanged their fridge with margarine, which gives them Christmas fruit cake. What a wonderful story about small appreciation during hard times. I wish they can still sell the traditional cake in the local bakery....

Belvedere - is a building on an high place, allowing you to view the surroundings. As a rule, it is built over a place that can be considered as beautiful for an observer from this place. This word can be applied to a couple of other cases, but let us stop specifically on this one... So, this Belvedere is incredibly beautiful. The building itself is located on the highest point of the park, on a hill, and is surrounded by tall bushes and trees. Inside is a large square pool. During the day you can walk around and have picnics. There are also night events here. For example as I saw in the photos, they arrange here some light and illumination...

Als Schloß konzipiertes Bauwerk, das bestimmt nie bewohnt wurde. Der fertig gestellte Bau erinnert mich mehr an eine vorgelagerte Wehranlage einer italienischen Burg.

Das tut dem Bauwerk aber nicht weh. Wir näherten uns von Osten über die Schrebergärten und konnten durch Schießscharten-ähnliche "Fenster" einen ersten Einblick erhalten. Der wurde aber absolut übertroffen, als wir das Schloß "richtig" betreten haben. Direkt vor sich sieht man das Wasserbassin und zu drei Seiten Mauern. Dann stand ich da und dachte nur "Wow, ich muss auf die Brüstungen und die Türme und überhaupt".

Es lohnt sich jedoch erst mal "in der rechten oberen Ecke" die Ausstellung zu besuchen. Dort hat man vor sich erst mal einen Bildschirm. Wenn man den Film startet, dann unterhalten sich Friedrich und Linné (links und rechts vom Bildschirm) über das Bauvorhaben. Untermalt wird dies durch Fotos und Skizzen auf dem Hauptmonitor. Sehr unterhaltsam und informativ gemacht, definitiv eine nette Abwechslung zum "Ablesen" von Info-Tafeln.

Wer auf einen (oder beide) der obersten Türme will, der kann dies nur mittels einer Wendeltreppe. Gott sei Dank ist diese jedoch nicht ganz so hoch und die Stufen nicht "durchbrochen", sondern "ganze" Platten.

Wer sich bis hier durchgelesen hat ....... der Belvedere Pfingstberg ist absolut einen Besuch wert. Wir haben es definitiv...
