Gasthof Bodner — Restaurant in Schönau am Königssee

Location and views is beautiful. We couldn’t get seating at the patio as the restaurant was pretty empty and so they closed off the section (they had a glass enclosure too) and we had to be seated more inside.

Food was traditional Bavarian and was ok but not stellar. Service was also ok and they got our orders right and was business like but made no recommendations or could tell us more about the food etc so all in all, wasn’t great. Staff was more interested to talk amongst themselves and I think their family members came by too so they were more interested in dealing with their own affairs than serving.

We showed photos of food a dish we wanted from another google reviewer of this restaurant and they indifferently said they do not do such a dish so we ordered something else. After, we looked further and found another google reviewer also ordering that dish. Re looking at menu, did the google translate and found they most likely offer it but somehow the waiter must have not been interested in investigating...

Tucked away in the gorgeous Bavarian countryside near Königssee, Gasthof Bodner is the real deal for an authentic alpine experience. Think hearty food, cozy vibes, and old-school hospitality. The restaurant itself is a charming, traditional Bavarian spot with plenty of rustic charm and warm wood accents. It was a bit warm inside when we visited, but the welcoming atmosphere more than made up for it. Our big group ordered a bunch of different dishes, and everyone left stuffed and happy. I had the chicken cordon bleu with fries - crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and huge portions. No one went home hungry, that's for sure. The cherry on top was when they surprised my father-in-law with free ice cream for his birthday and shots of schnapps for the adults. It was a super thoughtful touch that made the experience even more special. With the delicious food, friendly staff, and stunning scenery, this place is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Bavarian...

The waiter did not offer us the lunch menu (11:00-14:00) which is cheaper and starts at 9.8eur. Instead we just got the regular menu where the prices were double times higher.. Probably because of that we were tourists.

We were the first visitors to the restaurant so we did not notice there were any other lunch menu available. After we ordered, some people came to the restaurant and lately we saw those customers choosing from a different menu (green paper) than we had received from the waiter. Unfortunately we were already paying. After the payment, when leaving the restaraunt, we checked that green paper and saw the different prices. I had to pay 17.9eur for a burger instead of 9.8eur.
