I am really enthusiastic about this gastro initiative by a local fishery company, because I have so often been disappointed about the lack of Moselle restaurants that serve local produce. Despite excellent possibilities in this outstanding region, affordable local gastronomy is still relatively rare and often below par with similar regions abroad. But maybe, "times are a-changing" at the Moselle :-) Hopefully "Zum Moselfischer" is leading the way. Everybody seemed to like it here so far, but I do understand some comments. The preparations are indeed simple, service somewhat unceremonious... but that is a good thing because it is all about honest and pure fresh-water fish from the Moselle or their own aquaculture. Delicious hot or cold smoked trout or salmon trout from their own smokery doesn't need a lot of extra, now does it? I would even say sauces, condiments etc. could be simpler still... We had wels catfish, pike, pike-perch, chub... where can one still eat these mostly forgotten fish? And some interesting facts about fish biology by the energetic owner thrown in as an extra. (Unfortunately crayfish were not in season, we'll have to return for these - which we shall!) One small thing could be the lack of attention to the wines - after all we are in a region renowned for world-class Rieslings that match heavenly and classically with fresh-water fish... but I shouldn't grumble - after all, this is such a...
Read moreI've booked a table in advance but we were lucky that this particular weekend there were a lot of festivities going on around the area so we were only sitting with one other couple.
Simply put, we had an amazing evening here. All settings start at 18:30 and you will get a surprise menu served and all freshly caught from the Mosel. Every dish (we had 7 courses) is well prepared, presented and explained by the owner and we even had the luck that he threw in a new dish he never made before, just for the experiment. :-)
All served dishes tasted amazing and the extra information you get about the Mosel area, fishes and even get your questions answered was a very nice experience.
If you like fish, have a special dinner, just as a couple or with a larger group, this is a must visit when you are in the area. We would definitely come here again to support this amazing...
Read moreVisited the restaurant upon arriving in Trittenheim and we very much enjoyed our dinner experience-freshly prepared fish dishes in a quiet, intimate and modern dining room. They also have a nice outdoor patio for a great outdoor dinner in the summer. Our dinner includes different types of fish from the region caught or farmed by the chef from a Sashimi style appetizer to a unique variation of Fish and Chip, and everything in between. One of the dishes was a fried catfish that throughly surprised us. We are seafood lovers and eat all kinds of fish but we never like the strong taste of catfish. This catfish dish is unlike any other catfish I’ve head-it’s light, tender and reminds me of a flaky halibut with a very mild taste, lightly battered and fried with a nice crunchy texture. It was an excellent dinner to start our 4-day journey to the...
