What can one say about Bavaria and the surrounding lakes and culture? Only that it is breathtakingly beautiful and unique. Aran, situated on the edge of the Tegernsee is no exception to this standard, and they have created a tranquil but elegant escape. The restaurant caters for groups and small meetings, and also for the single who wants to sit for hours and take in the incredibly blue waters and landscape of the lake and local area. Boats and sail boats glide slowly across the water barely disturbing the water foul of the region while you contemplate how you could possibly invest in an apartment in the area to make the most of this Lake life. But back to the goods (if we have to), the coffee is good, the food and fresh cakes are unquestionably worth every cent. The service is friendly and provided over the counter. Which brings me to the problem with Aran. The only two, but very important, problems. One must queue and be served one at a time to get your meal and drinks order in (um buy another cash register machine?) and once your coffee is finished you must then queue once again to just get a coffee. A very frustrating System that could be easily repaired. Very easily. 20 minutes standing in a queue whilst your guests or partners wait is not worth the slightly above average coffee. But they have that view... so blood boiling soon turns to just simmering red blood cells.
Hint: worthy of a slow-boat-watching stop but book a table and get there early. Also. Order 2 coffees until they fix their order system. This is not the local Döner queue at 4am after a big...
Read moreAran in Tegernsee is the kind of place you stumble upon and instantly wish you’d discovered sooner. Located just steps from the lake, it offers not only breathtaking views but also a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels both relaxed and refined.
The interior is stylish in that signature Aran way—clean lines, natural wood, and an earthy palette that invites you to linger. On a sunny day, the terrace is unbeatable: fresh alpine air, sparkling lake views, and the gentle buzz of locals and visitors alike.
What truly makes Aran stand out is the bread and spreads—freshly baked, beautifully crusty loaves served with a variety of handmade spreads, from herb cream cheese to olive tapenade. Pair that with a rich cappuccino or a glass of locally sourced juice, and you’ve got the perfect mid-morning or afternoon pause.
Service is friendly and efficient, even when the café is full (which it often is, especially on weekends). There’s no rush here—just a quiet appreciation for good food, great design, and the simple pleasure of being by the lake.
Highly recommend for breakfast, a coffee break, or a light lunch. Aran Tegernsee is a gem for anyone visiting this picturesque...
