We didn't really have any expectations of our stay in Ettenheim, as we booked very last minute and mostly went because of europapark. Therefore we didn't really take time to look into hotels that well. The guesthouse looked lovely online, so we just booked it. ||We were really pleasantly surprised upon arrival. Not only were the owners extremely kind, it also looked amazing. Check in took place in the central area, where breakfast is also served. This little restaurant area looks very cozy. It reminded me a bit of old fashioned German (fairy) tales. After check in we were taken up to a building across the street, where our room was located. The house looked old, but well maintained. You don't often get to stay in a historical building, so that was exciting. The entrance and the staircase had a bit of an eerie vibe. Quite dark and just overal somewhat creepy, which is weird because I didn't have this experience in any of the other areas. Our room was simple, but I feel like it was restored with keeping the history of the building in mind. This I like, because it felt authentic. The bed was lovely and there was a little desk. The room was also equipped with a TV and a wardrobe. Little room was left to walk around and storing a larger suitcase was near impossible. Personally I didn't mind, but it definitely isn't a room where you'll spend time during the day. And for us, looking to just sleep there, that was fine.||Breakfast was lovely. Lots of different options, but also not wastefull as lots of the packaging was reusable and refillable. |Aside from bread rolls and meats and cheeses, there also was yoghurt with fillings and cooked breakfast. ||One night, we also had dinner in the restaurant. I had schnitzel and fries, which were tasty. You can either choose to eat inside, or outside on the little patio. Making a reservation a head of time is advisable, as it is often fully booked.||Location wise, it is centrally located. It is within the city centre, but close to the edge, so easy to reach by car but also very much part of the hustle and bustle if the main streets with shops and restaurants. Free parking is possible in the street within certain timeslots and after that you can park in a car park. This is also free and about a 5 minute walk.||I would definitely love to visit Ettenheim again as it is such a little town and also, we didn't get to do everything in europapark. When we come back, we'll definitely stay at guesthouse...
Read moreThe food in the restaurant is really nice and the breakfast was also tasty. At first look, the rooms are basic, but fine; just what we wanted. The main door to the rooms is always open, it can't be locked at all which wasn't really safe. The rooms were mostly clean, but we did have to pick quite a few hairs off the bedding and in the shower. After showering in the evening, we couldn't turn it off at all and went over to reception to let them know, but they close at 21:30 and didn't leave a number or anyone to contact in emergencies. We managed to turn it off with a bit of force and told them the next day, but nothing was said/done about it. We would definitely eat in the restaurant again, but won't be staying there. We both slept really bad, not because of the hotel, but the bells in the church ring all through the night at least every hour so if you're not used to it, it keeps you...
