The Italian — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Ettenheim

We arrived at the restaurant at 20:45 and were greeted politely so far, so good. By 21:00, we had placed our food and drink orders. The drinks took around 15 minutes to arrive, which was already a bit slow, but nothing compared to what came next.

Then the real disaster began. Our food didn’t arrive until 1 hour and 30 minutes later, with absolutely no update, explanation, or apology from the staff. When it finally showed up, the spaghetti carbonara was cold, bland, and utterly disappointing. Honestly, a pre-packaged carbonara from the supermarket would’ve tasted significantly better. I won’t even waste time describing the other dishes. It felt like the kitchen staff put zero effort or care into what they served. It’s as if they’ve completely given up on cooking and are just cashing in on unsuspecting tourists.

I came in with high expectations after reading some glowing reviews, but based on this miserable experience and many similar ones I’ve read since I seriously question the authenticity of those positive reviews. They feel bought, fake, or completely disconnected from reality.

For my birthday we went on a trip to Europapark and booked an hotel near this restaurant. We saw all the good reviews and decided to try the pizza's here. We came in around 9:30PM already quite late, and unfortunately, they sold out on their pizza's because they had ran out of dough. Which to me, is a really good sign. Beside some angry other customers we still decided to stay and try the pasta's instead. It was really delicious! You could immediately taste their pasta was homemade and the carbonara was made the real Italian way. Later we got to talking to the owner and eventually they stayed open for just us! We had an amazing time and stayed till early in the morning after mentioning we were here also to celebrate for my birthday. They came walking in with fantastic homemade tiramisu and a candle! The music was also amazing and no other could give us the experience we had in this place. The next day we came back to try their pizza's and were once again so amazed. They said the order would take about an hour to be ready if we dined at the table. If we ordered it to go, it would be ready in 30 minutes. That seemed a bit strange from the start. Isn’t it the same food being prepared either way? So, we ordered a carbonara pasta and a lasagna. Both were terrible. I expected to receive a freshly baked individual lasagna, but instead, I got a modest slice that seemed to be part of a larger tray-baked lasagna. I even had the impression that my piece had been reheated, as it was dry and had some hard edges. The carbonara pasta was just pasta and sauce—there wasn’t even any pork. I don’t know how the service would have been if we had eaten at the restaurant. Maybe the food would’ve tasted better? That’s the only explanation I can think of for the high reviews I saw here.
