We entered the establishment, unwelcomed by a waitress. We then sat down, ordered food and drinks. We ordered the soup of the day, thinking it'd be different from the other options. It was not. The soup was some kind of bouillon with shredded pancakes, which was the second soup option. Didn't taste like much, the pancakes were what you'd expect from being soaked in bouillon.
We then got a plate of dressing with salad.
On to the main course. Two of us got some normal sausage with sauce, one got a pork chop with sauce. These were alright. We got a microwaved plate with sauerkraut, potatoes that long ago saw the inside of a frying pan, and some slices of ham. The sauerkraut was bland and overcooked, potatoes were soft and tepid, and the meat was VERY dry. The whole dish was put in the microwave to heat it up, we could tell by the way the meat looked. It looked and tasted more dried out where the meat didn't overlap.
We didn't want to support them any more than we did, so we didn't...
Read moreI went there with the expectation of tasting "local food." The service was a bit rough as commented by other costumers here -which I did not care. they got my order wrong even tough I pointed at the menu and order with the number in the menu. Instead of loin with creamy sauce with mushrooms, I got a very beige plate of loin with french fries and salad on the side. I believe it was an honest mistake and I accepted it without argument. Yet, the overall taste of the food was not right. Meat was plenty, well cooked, served with butter on the side. Salad looked like store bought mix and it was swimming in its dressing -but still ok and fresh. French fries... they were unfortunately processed. their artificial salty taste and extremely large portion took over the meal. I could only imagine how much my meal would improve if fries were replaced by typical potato salad in right portion. Overall my meal was filling, but not...
Read moreWe stopped in here last night for a bite to eat en famille. The food was good. The beer was too. BUT...we ordered a carafe of water. Later another, later another. When our bill appeared, they scurrilously added charges of €2.70 for every carafe. Poor show, guys. When we questioned it, they told us they had to charge for the cleaning of the carafe and glasses. Apart from leaving a bad taste and ensuring we will never go back there, this is utterly uncommercial (DDR style!) especially for customers who are buying food and beer also. Might be different if someone walked in and ordered ONLY water, but not the case here. Plus, the waitress seemed to speak in 'ShoutDeutsch' which was unnecessarily loud and aggressive and the smoking allowed in the bar area meant my shirt smelt of nasty cigarette smoke afterwards. Legacy of dinner at S'Pfaennle: bad taste and bad smell. Be...
