We had a meeting and booked online- because it has excellent evaluations. ||Since the restaurant was closed that day- what we did not know- we were looking for the reception:||-The entrance is next to the free parking space:||- You open a heavy door....and the first question was : Did you book???||You do not feel welcome- the man at the reception just gave us the key, no welcome or where to find the room ( ok 2 means second)..we are not stupid.:)||- no wifi suggested||- no info about breakfast etc||- our question "where to eat, was not answered politely just- there are restaurants"||||To be honest: If it had not been booked by my collegue- I would have left. The restaurant is in the top guides but this welcome is below any place I have ever been to.||- not for hanicapped or elderly people: and not even a suggestion to give us a hand- Glad, we are strong and still in a good shape.||- room to the court was quiet and clean but they built the fire ladder in front of the window!||- renovated but given the price- not modern or cosy or taste.||- clean and good beds||- bathroom renovated but the shower doors do not close so you risk to flood and fall-||- very clean, indeed||- the room is too small - if you have even two small suite cases ( mine was on a chair)- and no couple. If you stay longer than a night it's definitely for one person.||- since no wifi was suggested- I tried to use roaming but that's unfair- and it does not work properly!||- no desk, just a closet||SUMMARY:||This is a renovated overpriced one person room- but since the restaurant seems to have some stars- they can afford this kind of service, it seems.||- breakfast: buffet, why no fresh croissants, jogurts, just the cheapest stuff, salmon is not what I want but a fresh and appetizing cheese choice:||Frankly speaking, this hotel has not many rooms- but the buffet looked like as if we had the left overs- coffee... Ok.. But nowadays I would appreciate a good cappuccino. Even if you have few guests you can have a fantastic small buffet.||||- Breakfast service was friendly!||||||Maybe the restaurant makes the money- it has to- because this kind of cold service ( except the lady who served us) - is beyond of what we are used to. Wir haben in der Vergangenheit schon zu Geburtstagen und Weihnachten im Kranz zu Abend gegessen. Von daher war Weihnachten eine gute Gelegenheit den neueröffneten Kranz zu besuchen.
Ich habe mir vorher im Internet die Speisekarte angesehen. Neben einem Weihnachtsmenü wurde noch eine Karte mit einer Handvoll Gerichte vorgestellt. Für meinen Geschmack auf alles Fälle etwas zu finden.
Die erste Enttäuschung: Es wurde an dem Abend lediglich das Weihnachtsmenü angeboten.
Dass es für das komplette Restaurant nur eine einzige Weinkarte gab, zu Kenntnis genommen. Auch die Anzahl der Speisekarten war limitiert.
Zum ersten Mal im Kranz saß ich nicht im Gastraum sondern im angebauten Saal. Dieser hat zwar ein stimmiges Farbkonzept, ansonsten versprüht er die Gemütlichkeit einer Bahnhofshalle.
Ich bestellte das fünf Gänge Menü für 89 EUR.
Der Feldsalat war schmackhaft.
Die Rinder Consomme war leider geschmacksneutral. Sehr schade, da das darin enthaltene Gemüse sehr gut und bissfest war.
Das Lachsgericht war sehr gut. In meinen Augen die Überraschung des Abends.
Die Hauptspeise, das Rinderfilet, war leider kalt. Die dazu bestellten Pommes hingegen frisch, heiß und knusprig.
Das Desser war gut.
In den vorherigen Rezensionen wurde das Thema Portionsgröße bereits mehrfach erwähnt. Auch ich muss sagen: definitiv könnten die Portionen größer sein. Auch für ein fünf Gänge Menü. Insbesondere das sehr kleine Stück Rinderfilet, welches gerade einmal zwei bissen war, war sehr enttäuschend.
Der Service hinterließ ein uneinheitliches Bild. Mal wurde erklärt was auf dem Teller ist, mal nicht. Ob das Essen schmeckte, wurde, auch das nicht einheitlich, erst beim abräumen der Teller gefragt. Das Dessert wurde vor der Hauptspeise serviert, versehentlich, falscher Tisch.
Dass am Ende die Technik streikte und das bezahlen mit Karte nochmals erheblich Zeit in Anspruch nahm, rundete das Bild eher zum negativen ab.
Meine persönliche Meinung: Wer auf diesem Niveau Gastfreundschaft anbieten möchte muss mehr abliefern. Dafür gibt es in Lörrach und Umgebung eine Vielzahl von Alternativen.
Wir waren von dem Abend insgesamt enttäuscht.
Vielleicht gibt es in Zukunft eine zweite Chance und ich kann diese Rezension...
