I spent two nights in this pleasant hostel, ideally located in the center of the charming Weingarten village (Weingarten is just about 15 min by car, or 10 min with the S-Bahn from Karlsruhe main train station).||||The Gasthaus zur Krone is a beautiful and very well kept half-timbered house. You will be welcomed by a charming, discrete and helpful lady, as if you were at home. I felt like a real guest, and I really enjoyed the fact of staying in a family owned business, rather than in one of these standard hotel, which all look the same.||||The hostel seems to be very freshly renovated and refurbished, as everything is in perfect state. It's also very clean and quiet. Bedrooms are wide enough, comfortable, and well equipped. They are also very calm: no noise in corridors, nor from the streets, as in winter time, the village falls asleep after 6 PM.||||Breakfast is OK. Good buffet with enough choice / not too excessive.||||On the second evening, I could enjoy as well the chef's cuisine: very generous portions of freshly prepared home-made and tasty food, for very good price. The place seems quite renowned, as many people even come to eat, without staying in the hostel. I had the pleasure as well to be asked by the cook himself whether I liked the food (he did the same to all his guests of the day).||||Still, be aware that food is served only till 9PM, and that in winter time, it's more or less the same in every of the surrounding restaurants.||||In short, very pleasant stay. If I go back to Weingarten, I'll surely stay...

Read moreWe stayed here for a night on our way down to South of France. It was found by chance. The gasthaus is in a beautiful location/ setting! Just for that it's worth stopping here. We believe it is family owned and we met husband (chef) and wife (hotel manager(?) and waitress). They couldn't do enough to accommodate us and were very attentive to our needs. We received a lovely double bedroom overlooking the Main Street and churches, not a lot of traffic so no problem. We decided to eat dinner there and had the obligatory (for us :)) wienerschitzel and it was lovely, generous portion too. The hotel golden retriever kept us company, he was a wonderful and extremely friendly dog who just lay peacefully by our table.|Room was very nice, clean and tidy and had everything you would need. Breakfast in the morning (which was not included in the 100€ and was an additional 8€ pp) was rather meagre. The food was very fresh and presented nicely, but there should've been the basics such as egg, toast, bacon, sausages etc. especially considering the price. The breakfast was not worth the price we paid and too be honest it should've been included in the bedroom price!|However our overall experience is; it's a very nice place, with good service, nice dinner and a great place to stop and we would happily...
