This place came highly recommended by our family. The taverns's style didn't exactly enhance the picturesque setting.
It was well past lunchtime, around 5 o'clock, and there weren't many occupied tables. Our waiter, while friendly, looked like he'd run a marathon before taking our order. Ten minutes later, he returned to clean and set the table, and another 10 minutes passed before a different waiter finally brought us water, glasses, and the menu. The menus themselves were in a sorry state and conveniently, the prices on the priciest items seemed to have faded into oblivion, thanks to wear and tear (best case scenario).
We patiently waited another 10 minutes for someone to take our order. Most likely the owner came over, dripping with attitude. He informed us that if we wished to place an order, we'd need to vacate the premises within one and a half hour because he had the entire tavern booked for other clients. It was the best he could do a.k.a. it was take it or leave it. I couldn't help but ask him why we weren't informed of this little detail when we first sat down, rather than half an hour later. His reply? "I just saw you."
We promptly rose from our seats and left. We ventured to a nearby tavern where we enjoyed a decent meal (most items were at least 2 euros cheaper than at Kosmas Taverna). Two hours later, on our way back to the car, we passed by Kosmas Taverna again, and lo and behold, there were still a few tables available.
Perhaps this tavern does indeed serve the freshest fish in the village. However, if this is the representative of culinary hospitality in Fanari, it might be wise to steer clear of the place altogether.
We were never planning to stay more than 1 and a half hour for food but having someone imposing restrictions to our day out...
Read moreNot the greatest start of our vacation. My family and I went there for a dinner after recommendation from the people that we rent the villa from, the so called "service" was not what we expected as we had to wait for over half an hour for our order to be taken which wouldn't have been a problem at all if we have received what we have ordered, the fried(tiganites) chicken nuggets were not fried but pan fried and came with mustard sause poored over them which you could imagine our child would not eat. The Kalamari were done correctly and if the oil in the fryer was changed regularly they would probably taste excellent, however they didn't and it was a let down. The waiter was not interest though. We have also ordered some patato chips with fetta cheese and no oregano, what we have recieved though was fried patotoes with oregano and cheese with did not resembled fetta at all. I hope the owner will take some action as this looks to be be one of the oldest places in the village and is probably a family business that has been past down the generations. P. S. To the owner: Please fix your business as it seems like a nice place and do not underestimate the people working for you, equip them with all the tools they need to be successful and stimulate them...
Read moreWe visited Taverna Kosmas on a Saturday night. We didn’t have reservation but managed to get a table for two. There are few bad reviews about the serving speed. To be honest, the serving speed is not the best. But, as Fanari is a small town, we personally did not expect to have fast service. I do not think that it is fair to judge the restaurants in this city to vibrant big cities. So if you prefer a fast service you may visit another restaurant. Despite the fact that, the service was not fast, it was not slow either. We enjoyed our time with the sea view. We tried fried zucchini, fried anchovies, grilled octopus, rocket and lettuce salad, fried calamari. The portions were satisfying. Overall, if you want to experience a chill and local experience, I totally suggest this place. The prices are in the low-mid range. Waiters do not show up unless you wave at them, so do not wait and...
