Restaurant "Ostria" — Restaurant in Kythnos Municipality

THEY SELL FROZEN SEAFOOD AND FISH AND THEY CLAIM IT’S FRESH !!!

All the seafood starters were frozen. Without stating so, with the official “star sign” that the law requires. So… We ordered boiled salad “Horta” and grilled fish.

Probably the only Greek fish tavern who has no special display for fish! I asked to see and choose the fish. So I had to go inside. And wait. Because the guy had to go to another space, next to the tavern to bring the fish. When I asked to go there he said is “staff only “. Obviously it’s the SPECIAL FREEZER ROOM.

“Horta” arrived immediately but in a suspicious very dark colour (brown to black). Instead or light fresh green they usually are.

We waited over an hour for the fish to arrive (they admitted that the restaurant was not busy) and when I asked for an official explanation why they need one hour to grill two fish of 800gr each they replied -officially- that this is the time the “master” needs to grill them properly! At this point I have to add that after tasting the fish (75-80 minutes after ordering), one had obviously just been defrosted-although we were charged and paid for freshly caught fish.

During our stay in Kythnos, we had the pleasure of discovering Ostria restaurant and from the very first moment, it truly stood out. We were welcomed with a warm smile and felt instantly at home. The staff was outstanding kind, attentive and genuinely eager to make our experience special.

We ordered a variety of dishes and each one was impressive. Generous portions, fresh ingredients and authentic flavors that showed real care in preparation.

Prices were very reasonable, especially compared to other spots on the island and at the end of our meal, they treated us to a homemade dessert, which was the perfect closing note.
