We went to Ionio for lunch, and we were absolutely not disappointed ! Firstly, the view is simply stunning. The setting is also very calm, isolated, and there is lots of shade. It is far from the crowds, and the place does not seem touristy at all (unlike other taverns in the area). The staff is so kind, welcoming and sweet, and they leave you time to choose your food and eat it - it's no rush. They were also very helpful and happy to give us advice regarding the nearby beaches. The menu is not too wide (which is a good sign !), yet with various possibilities, including multiple vegetarian options. It is traditional Greek food, with lots of vegetables, meat, and fish. Then comes the best part : the food. It is simple, fresh, traditional, and homemade. We got the Greek salad, the traditional salad, and the Greek meatballs "soutzoukakia". Everything was amazing and very tasty, and the traditional salad was dressed with a delicious honey mustard sauce. The soutzoukakia was however the best of all; those were probably the tastiest meatballs I ate in my entire life. The spices, the rice, it was simply perfect. We even got a second plate ! The deserts were also very good, yet a little too sweet to my taste (but that's how it is in Greece :) ). Overall, this was an amazing experience and I could not recommend this...
Read moreIn tourist season I believe this is a very nice place for a drink or food. However we visited beginning of May. I think they were not prepared for visitors. The covered terrace had a pile of chairs and tables that normally would be on the, promising, outside terrace. In summer this certainly will he a great place to stay. The lady was very friendly and spoke Greek fluently. We didn't but we managed to order dinner. In spite of the fact that we were the only customers (which make us feel bit lonely) it took her a long time to bring us our salad and tzaziki. Next it took her even much more time to prepare us the chicken souvlaki. We really don't mind waiting for food when we are in vacation mood and the drinks have been served but there are limits to our patience. She probably had to catch the chicken first before she could prepare them. The food tasted really good, unfortunately due to other circumstances I rate it average. To my opinion when you are open you should be prepared for customers and give reasonable service. Not only a friendly lady and good food. Imagine what would happen when another guest would show up. I really do believe in summer this could be a great place, we just were a bit to...
Read moreWe visited the tavern with two small children after leaving Porto Katsiki. The tavern is really nice located, has an amazing sea view and also a playground and a lots of space for kids. When we arrived we sat at a bigger table which served 6 people near the balcony with the sea view, to be able to have more space, however the server informed us that the table was reserved and showed us a smaller table. Just to mention here that the restaurant was half empty and one hour and a half later when we left, no one has arrived to seat on the “reserved” table.
Service was fast and everything arrived hot and not pre-cooked. The Greek salad was excellent and so were the fried zucchini with tzatziki as well as the meatballs. I ordered a beef stake which came burnt on one side (they had flipped it on the plate so that it was not obvious but the taste betrayed them). My husband and daughter ordered rice as a side dish which came overcooked and tasted like water, while the lamp was mostly bone and fat rather than meat.
Based on the online reviews I was expecting a better experience however to our disappointment the overall experience was...
