Taverna Ammoudara — Restaurant in Municipality of Agios Nikolaos

This is NOT Crete. Purely touristic place with no additional value on food, and the menu which is no different than most of the touristic restaurants all over Greece. The menu is designed to give a variety of options but not close to the real Cretan cooking. The waiters where nice but my dish (seafood pasta) was dry with no real seafood taste. Most of the dishes where nothing special. The thing though that it was really a negative surprise was the fact that one of the dishes that we had was marinated anchovies which felt very slimy and jelly like being in the marinade for a very long time and they were giving nothing to do with a fish with meat. So, I gave the plate back. I literally eat almost everything and this is one of the 2-3 times in my whole life that I ever returned a dish that I could not eat. One of the waiters asked me what was wrong which I appreciated but that was it. The dish was charged to us, something that I mentioned to the head waiter who of course did NOTHING, not even apologized. They didn't even treat us something just as an apology for this inconvenience and this is NOT done anywhere that I had been around Crete. I only give two stars because of the place which is convenient right at the sandy beach good for kids. I would definitely not...

The food had very poor quality, very poor ingredients and the finished meal didn't look very good.

ci siamo fermati per un pranzo, con l’idea di fare una cosa veloce, volevamo ordinare due orate (per 16€ ciascuna) ma il cameriere ci ha proposto di prendere un piattone unico per due, con cui avremmo mangiato sia noi che i nostri due bimbi, indicandoci dal menu un piatto da 45€. abbiamo accettato e ci è arrivato un bel piatto con due orate, qualche gambero e due assaggi di cozze e fritto misto, buoni. Peccato che al momento del conto tale piatto è stato caricato 80€! Inutili le nostre lamentele sul fatto che avevamo ordinato un piatto da 45€ - alla fine ci ha “scontato 10€” e stop ;( Possibile ci sia stato un fraintendimento, anche se l’ordine era stato molto chiaro. Più probabile che ci abbiano semplicemente fregato, visto che tale prezzo per quel piatto non si è mai visto a Creta. E’ la prima volta che ci capita una cosa del genere a Creta e ci siamo rimasti male, non tanto per la spesa, che va beh è capitata una volta sola e non ci rivedranno mai più, ma perché in tante esperienze cretesi abbiamo sempre riposto fiducia nei ristoranti e siamo sempre stati ampiamente ripagati.
