This is a taverna we visited last year and loved very much. The portions were big and tasty. The staff was very friendly. That night there was a travelling elderly bouzouki player who played wonderfully traditional rebetiko songs. In short, the atmosphere was great.
But this year, because of the misbehavior of one employee (who might be the owner of the place, as well) our visit turned out to be a real disappointment.
The night we went there this year, there was a lovely duo (probably consisting of a father and his son) playing fantastic Greek music. We wanted to sit at a table from which you could see the musicians. But unfortunately both tables facing the stage were reserved. So, I politely asked if it was possible to place one table in an empty space from which one could see the musicians (and there was plenty of empty space!). They hesitated first, and I thought, never mind, and was about to look for another table from which you could nevertheless listen to the music. At that moment, they put a table to the place I asked them to.
So, we sat down. For a quite long time, nobody came to take our orders, which, we thought, was maybe normal since the place was pretty full.
Then, finally came one gentleman who was maybe the owner and asked in a very stressful manner for our orders. We gave our orders and were hesitating if we wanted to order maybe one more meze or so, but then he suddenly said: "NO EXTRA ORDERS!" We first thought that he was asking us if we had some extra orders. But then he repeated, this time in a really rude way: "NO EXTRA ORDERS!"
We never experienced such a disrespectful behavior anywhere in Alexandropouli or Greece or elsewhere in the world! The other younger members of the staff were ok but the rudeness of that one guy was enough to spoil our time there.
The food might be good there. But this is not everything. Friendliness and hospitality go a long way. No taverna owner should think that they are the best in town because they are not!
Nevertheless, the musicians were great. They did not only make great music but were also very friendly and kept eye-contact with their audience. We stood up, showed our thankfulness with gestures towards them and exchanged greetings.
Such a pity! We had really loved this place. But we are definitely not going to a place where somebody makes you...

I am Australian, and we visited Stratos Tavern on 3 occasions. 4 weeks after returning to Australia, I received a notification that $94 Australian dollars were taken out of my account.
The charges to this restaurant show up as the name Lavarena Lena. Thankfully, we have security on our bank card, and any purchase over $100 needs a pin, hence why they only took $94. This is disgusting and shameful, and they should be ashamed.
It's under investigation from my side, and the police will be notified in Alexandroupolis. Please, everyone, check your accounts.

Excellent fish and sea food, here I found the best "midhia saganaki" (mussels in a red feta + tomato + red pepper based salsa I ever had. I would highly recommend this casual tavern to everybody who is into lovely and fresh food rather than a haute cusine restaurant with high...
