We were visiting Agistri for one day and wanted something traditional. Not the stock standard at the harbour. Probably good places, but we wanted an authentic local experience. We got just that. Our daughters were delighted with the canary and the friendly grannie gave them both a hug. The food is truly Greek and having been to many Greek islands and restaurants, I can say this one is the real deal. I’ve read a few of the reviews here and I do not recognise it at all. The portion sizes are good (we didn’t finish), clean plates and cutlery and we loved the straight forward directness of the owner. Her father started the restaurant in 1980 and she proudly continues the family tradition. She served the tables, cooked and had time for a chat about the place and the island. We got some complementary drinks on the house and decided to have another carafe of wine because we loved sitting on the cool terrace while the kids were enjoying themselves. We thoroughly recommend this place. Trust us, we’ve been around. This is ‘The Greek’ experience you want. Leave the portion size complaining to others. That’s...
Read moreWe had some lovely food in this little traditional taverna and we really enjoyed ourselves. We had a tzatziki, fried zucchini, Greek salad, grilled langoustines and kebab. We could not fault the food, everything was fresh and nicely cooked. The portions were big! Could have fried the potatoes a bit longer, but either than that, no issue!
I would have rated it 5/5, but the restrooms were not clean and some of the cutlery neither… Also wished they would have played any Greek music, rather than a random pop radio.
The owner was very helpful and surprisingly she told us what we ordered was enough rather than letting us spend more and not be able to eat everything. We cleared our plates! The grandma that seated us at our table was super sweet and made us feel welcome.
Only a few steps away, there is a Greek Orthodox Church, that was open in the evening at 8 pm, where you can go and give thanks for being able to enjoy life and good in Agistri....
Read moreThis was one of the best meals of our month in Greece. Very local traditional taverna in the heart of Megalahouri on Agistri. Classic dishes and simple charm, Vasso and her mother Katerina serve real Greek comfort food. The Giant Beans are stellar. The pork stilfado melts in your mouth, and the fried red peppers are sublime. We also had the usual Greek salad and Chicken in Tomato Sauce, both wonderful. If you want to go to an authentic local taverna, this is definitely the...
