Kafenes to mantraki — Restaurant in Municipality of Angistri

Atmosphere and Ambience: Great location, it got a bit windy but a perfect location to be with people special to you. It's definitely a special location. I took one star as there are a lot of cats and my dearest couldn't refrain from feeding them which resulted in a family of cats surrounding the table. The cats were hungry. Yes I know what am I even talking about..

Service: the Service was great, they were quick to take the order for drinks and food , brought out the order with great timing. They didn't have 2-3 of the dishes we inquired as they ran out of it, plus I guess it was late.

Food: well to be honest, it was okay. I have been many psarotavernas ( fish taverns ) around Greece. The sauce of the saganaki was quite salty apart of the feta. Then the greek salad also had olives that were just a turn off, they were not ready to be served. The mussels were nice but nothing special, could find better in other spots.

One thing as a chef myself and a foodie I don't appreciate that as someone working in the kitchen doesn't find it important or takes the time to clean the Shrimp (garida). If you are to charge 13 plus euros for a dish, put the effort in it. All the shrimps came with heads and were only partially de-shelled without deveining any of them. I'm sorry but it's not a cultural thing but I felt it was a lack of effort and laziness there. Head and shells could've been used for the sauce to add umami and shrimps could be cleaned/deveined and would be crisp if they were to do it right.

Not the best experience in terms of food. I'm sorry but the people there were nice and the location was great. I got to spend a special time with my beloved, but would've loved it a lot more if the food was better.

Is this the best restaurant in the whole Agistri island? How should I know. I loved it and I didn't try another. Four nights, four dinners, same place. Why? Why not try another place, especially when the other restaurants+tavernas looked so attractive and met the standards of my taste? #1: location: elevated edge of the town Megalohori, that allowed amazing - infinite views of the pelagos and the nearby islands; #2: the soft cool evening breeze, a contrast of the hot day on the beach, caressed our fried skins; #3: faces, yes the same cool faces we saw on the remote and quality beaches. What did I forget? FOOD!!! The food was great and included my favorite grean-herb salad: dendelion. Also fresh fish like red mullet appropriately fried, risotto cooked with squid ink and other specialties. Did I prove my case? Cheers...

This restaurant has everything: an enchanting view to the port and the sea, it is spacious, sunny and the food is delicious! I highly recommend pasta with salmon and pesto sauce. I could eat it everyday. 🤤 Grilled feta cheese with honey is also yummy (and I normally hate feta so this little starter is great if it managed to change my mind). Note that Mantraki Kafenes is legendary for its fried calamari as they serve the whole thing which is rare, impressive and extremely tasty. Last time we ordered it though it we got served a slightly different calamari in pieces! Apparently an addition to the menu. Ask for the whole calamari and I promise you you'll enjoy it!
