Fantastic experiences from start to finish at Il Forno during our holiday in Kalyves!! We loved it so much we made two trips here during our time in kalyves.
The first time as a family of four for an evening meal(2 young children). It was very busy, but we managed to get a table in the inside where locals were seated that evening. There was a lovely local and friendly feel to it. We were skeptical how the evening would go with two very tired and wobbly children but we could not have been happier. The children were treated with little Easter gifts and magic tricks to keep them happy. Being on the street and across from the beach we could step out for little walks whilst waiting for our meal. There was an extensive menu with items for children such as pizza and toasties in addition to an entire menu for the rest of us. The soulvakis and musakka did not disappoint and the seafood was lovely too.
We were so impressed we brought the rest of our family, a party of 10, the next night. We had four children and were again treated with immaculate service and delicious food. We were seated across the road with a beautiful sea view. We did make a reservation earlier in the day to ensure there was room for us as space is limited. Both meals ended in the Crete tradition of complementary sweets and Rakki(local spirit). There is a very special atmosphere here and it's Creten hospitality at it's finest. Would highly recommend a visit...
Read moreOrdered the calamari. Worst I had on Crete. NOT fresh at ALL and OILY as i asked for them to drain it well and they didnt listen. It came with NO FRIES OR TZAZIKI and about 10 small pieces of oily frozen fried calamari. My friend had to give me a few fries to make a decent meal. Awful. And it was €13!! Thank God i didnt have to pay because it would have torn me to pieces! My friend ordered the lamb chops. He's Greek and said it was the worst he's had as well. Only "seasoned" with salt and pepper and mustard. Even my dog wouldn't even eat the meat, or bones.......very odd. We made the mistake though because it's an obvious pizza places, so we should have ordered pizza. Greek pizza is never good, but I'm sure they made a better pizza than what we ordered. Mistrali next door is definitely MIUCH better...
Read moreWe spent our vacation in Kalyves and Il Forno already 3 times from 2006-2008 and returned this year. As expected we literally spent our entire stay at Il Forno. All day in the new and shaded sunbeds, just moving between the marvellous sea and the tables of the restaurant. Enjoying delicious pizza, pasta, fish and greek specialties. Giorgos and his team always care for their guests, even in August during their busiest period. Harry is always good for a joke. We were there 4 times, and we will definitely return a 5th, 6th time and...
