Glyfa — Restaurant in Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands

This taverna serves excellent food and is sought out by tourists from all over the island, it can get pretty busy and noisy in the evenings. The staff are friendly, competent and speak decent English, the owner was especially friendly once we were leaving after paying 94 euros for a dinner for two. Which brings me to my rating: while I'm happy to pay a higher price for excellent food, I would also like to be told fair and square upfront what I'm paying for. The first time we came to this taverna, we ordered mostly starters for mains and managed to get full perfectly well. Second time we decided to treat ourselves to a bottle of retsina, a beer, a small bottle of water, a fish main with chips and salad, ice cream (3 scoops) for desserts as well as one shot of Metaxa as digestif for my husband. When we were ordering the fish, our waiter brought us the catch of the day on a tray and we agreed to have a sea bream which was big enough for both of us. I was so happy we'd be able to share the fish as it can be pricey. What we hadn't been told is that even though we shared the one fish, we were charged for two, twice at 24,50 euros. There's also the fact that they bring you olives and bread straightaway, which you might think is complimentary, but you'd be wrong. The bill is in Greek so you have no way of knowing what's on there unless you ask and of course by then you've most likely eaten the olives etc. As I said before, the food was great and I'm happy to splash out, I'd just like that to be my decision, not through anyone's manipulation, omission...

It used to be a beautiful tavern with good food a few years ago. Me and my family as locals decided to pay a visit again but we were very disappointed. The main dishes came too late the risotto we ordered cold and they didn’t even apologize for letting us wait an hour for our food. With the fat bill and overpriced dishes we payed for, plus the horrible delay, we expected at least a treat at the end. Even though to well dressed foreigners ( mind you we visited right after a swim in the beach ) they not only gave complimentary drinks and dessert but friendlier service overall. If you want to play it high cuisine, the service has to match the vibe. I do not recommend it. Also they are deleting the negative...

Normally I'm not so quick to write a review, but this experience was so dissapointing that I want to prevent other people from having the same experience. First of all, this restaurant is way overpriced! Yes, it has a fancy touch, but that does not make up for the bad quality of food. I had the seafood linguine and it was cold ( cold mussels, clams,etc.). On top of that the clams were undercooked... And yet on top of that you have to pay a seriously overpriced bill ( which we got after waiting for it about 20 min). There are so many good , cheaper and more traditional tavernss in the area. Better try...
