When you come to Greece, one of the main food items you MUST have is Souvlaki. Ask any Greek or anyone who has ever traveled here, they will all say the same thing.
My go-to order is a pork gyro in a pita.
I have been in and out of Greece for about 15 years now and I can easily say that I have tried thousands of different souvlaki, it's one of my favorite foods, and Souvlaki Halandri Express is hands down the single best you can get.
First, the taste is amazing, however they prepare their meats and other ingredients are simply better than everyone else.
Second, they are CONSISTENT!!! That is so important, especially here in Greece where I have found that consistency at these local places is non-existent. You can often have a great experience one night at a restaurant and the next night it is terrible in every regard. This place, is ALWAYS great.
Third, the staff are friendly and accommodating. Again, here in Greece that is not a given. Most often the service is very poor. Here, they are all great, and they deal with my poor Greek with grace.
Fourth, the pricing is amazing! To be fair, most souvlaki is a great price. There are not many other things that you can buy for a full meal for such a price. My pork gyro costs 3.90 and is an entire meal. You seriously can't beat that.
Since we have been back in the country the last month or so, I have eaten in or ordered delivery via the efood app at least 4 times a week, if not more! It really is that good.
I am currently waiting on yet another order, this time with 2 gyro wraps and realized that I have never reviewed my favorite place in Attiki!
Congrats to this place for being so damn good!
If you go here and try this because of this review, please let me know! I am wicked excited to help people have amazing experiences and want to see if what has been true for me has been true...
Read moreWe ordered delivery for a group of four. The site offered a bundle of two pita wraps and a can of beer for 7.80€. This seemed like a solid deal, so we got 2 of these bundles along with 2 pork and 1 chicken skewers. In total, we had ordered 4 pita wraps, 3 skewers and 2 cans of beer for 24€ (1€ and a few cents tip). The delivery time was on point, considering the fact that it had rained before. However this is the start as well as the end of the positives. The first hint we noticed was the pathetic excuse of a souvlaki. The meat (pork and chicken gyros) was dry and bland with crunchy pieces that I ended up spitting in a paper towel. The potatoes were soggy and the sauce looked like it was placed by the smallest spoon of their kitchen. This sums up all four of the wraps. As I previously mentioned we were also expecting 3 skewers, 1 of them being a chicken one. This one never arrived but probably it was for the better since the two pork skewers were so bad they were fed to the cats. Not even the cats didn't wanna eat that crap. If you are ever thinking about eating from that place, I would highly advise you to reconsider. After all, there is a wide variety of food options in the area. Let this "restaurant" shut down for good....
Read moreNot impressed 😞. The fries felt like styrofoam. The chicken and pork gyro tasted and had the texture of cardboard. The pita was bone dry and very chewy. The atmosphere was calm and this time of year Christmas themed. What I also found beyond outrageous was the pricing. Almost 4 euro for a pitogyro and 3 for a kalamaki but I guess this is somewhat caused by the central location near the square. But still I believe the food is the most important of all that is why I will not be giving it anything more than one star. Nevertheless I won't be coming here again unless I was dragged...
