We have been there yesterday (jan 12 2020) for lunch. We booked a table for 2 persons using the "e-table" app. Two hours before they called us for booking confirmation. Our table was relatively small for 2, but the empty dishes were removed very quickly (due to the satisfactory number of staff) so there was no congestion in our living space at the table. As a welcome gesture we were offered (in a cup for Greek coffee) a velvet soup that was very tasty. Yet, in my cup I found a fragment (from its hardness and look, I assume it was ) of a laurel leaf. I got Disappointed! If I were a restaurant critic this could be the cause for a disastrous comment. I'm not. We had a salad with crispy broccoli and cauliflower. Absolutely divine! However, for both of the above: the quantities could be more generous.
As an appetizer we had a «SAGANAKI» served with ginger and cranberry sauce. Delicious, but ordinary. But then again the restaurant is listed as a Tavern. Our pasta choice was "SKIOUFIHTA" with mushrooms . Exceptionally delicious! The correct boiling time and perfectly sauced. We decided to go with the dish of the day: Duck with chips and artichoke puree. There were mistakes from both parts here: The waiter did NOT ask us about our roasting preferences. His/her mistake. The duck came relatively raw. We didn't return the dish. Our mistake. The incident didn't spoil our experience. Regarding the sweets: we had chosen "Pavlova" and PASSION CREAM, both offered in serving amounts for 2 persons. Delicious. The only downside: The supposed coconut ice cream that came with PASSION CREAM was tasteless, and for sure, not of a coconut taste. No digestive!!!
The service was extremely fast and to the right timing. Maybe, the empty dishes of the main course, could had been removed from the table faster than they did. Overall: our experience was positive and the VFM good for 2 people. If the restaurant was named, let's say, "Chez Jean" ;-) it would go for 3 stars, if not for 2 (for the fragment in the soup). But it is called "Bread and Salt" and it is a tavern located in Chalandri. 5 stars definitely. Highly recommended. PS: From the chef Lukakos, we would like to see a more sophisticated restaurant, on both the ambience and the menu!
Είμαστε εκεί χθες (Ιαν. 12 2020) για μεσημεριανό γεύμα. Κλείσαμε ένα τραπέζι για 2 άτομα χρησιμοποιώντας την εφαρμογή "e-table". Δύο ώρες πριν μας τηλεφώνησαν για επιβεβαίωση κράτησης. Το τραπέζι μας ήταν σχετικά μικρό για 2, αλλά τα κενά πιάτα απομακρύνθηκαν πολύ γρήγορα (λόγω του ικανοποιητικού αριθμού προσωπικού), επομένως δεν υπήρχε συμφόρηση στο χώρο μας στο τραπέζι. Ως χειρονομία καλωσορίσματος μας προσφέρθηκε (σε ένα φλιτζάνι για τον ελληνικό καφέ) μια βελούδινη σούπα που ήταν πολύ νόστιμη. Ωστόσο, στο κύπελλο μου βρήκα ένα θραύσμα (από την σκληρότητα και την εμφάνισή του, υποθέτω ότι ήταν) ενός φύλλου δάφνης. Απογοητεύτηκα! Αν ήμουν κριτικός εστιατορίων, αυτό θα μπορούσε να αποτελέσει αιτία για ένα καταστρεπτικό σχόλιο. Δεν είμαι. Για σαλάτα πήραμε με τραγανό μπρόκολο και κουνουπίδι. Απολύτως θεϊκή! Ωστόσο, και για τα δύο παραπάνω: οι ποσότητες θα μπορούσαν να είναι ελαφρώς υψηλότερες.
Ως ορεκτικό είχαμε ένα «Σαγανάκι» που σερβίρεται με σάλτσα πιπερόριζας και κράνμπερυ. Νόστιμο, αλλά συνηθισμένο. Η επιλογή μας για ζυμαρικά ήταν "SKIOUFIHTA" με μανιτάρια. Εξαιρετικά νόστιμο! Ο σωστός χρόνος βρασμού και τέλειο δέσιμο με την σάλτσα. Για κυρίως: πάπια με τσιπς και πολτό αγκινάρας. Ο σερβιτόρος δεν μας ρώτησε για τις προτιμήσεις μας στο ψήσιμο του κρέατος.Λάθος του / της. Η πάπια ήρθε σχετικά ωμή. Δεν επιστρέψαμε το πιάτο. Λάθος μας. Δεν το φάγαμε. Δεν είμαστε θιασώτες της πάπιας, αλλά είπαμε χθες να κάνουμε την έκπληξη. Το περιστατικό δεν αλλοίωσε την εμπειρία μας. Όσον αφορά στα γλυκά: "Pavlova" και PASSION CREAM! Νόστιμα. Μειονέκτημα: Το παγωτό που συνόδευε το PASSION CREAM δεν είχε γεύση καρύδας, ως αναμενόταν. VFM καλό για 2 άτομα. Read moreI visited the restaurant during the special event "dine Athens", so my review is not objective. The place is located in a central plaza at Halandri, which is nice but bit crowded. For sure, parking is not easy in the area, so public transport is by far the better choice. It's well decorated in a modern and calm style and the staff is very kind and helpful. For the event, the choices of the menu were more than enough and could covered all tastes. My very favorites were the celery root soup, as well as the goat cheese stuffed ravioli, though I have to note that all dishes were excellent! I have only one suggestion, please next time you should reduce servings, because in a 5 course dinner the food was more than plenty!! So, we had no room for dessert, which was notable amazing! Read moreWe went for Valentine’s Day. A fixed menu of 40€ each person (ie 130€ with wine). Epic fail. The first dish a soup should not have been chosen to be served at any restaurant let alone a “thought to be something” restaurant such as this one. The second dish, a salad for two, which obviously could only be considered as a side salad for one in the amount it came. Plus, I make a better one at home. Seriously, is this the best you can do??? The third dish was two tiny pieces of pita with meat and a dressing. This was tasty(thank God). For the main dish we chose salmon. Salmon should not have been served like that. It was greatly overcooked and hard. This is NOT the way to serve salmon! It should be cooked and remain soft and tender guys!! Finally, we were served an inedible desert with a strange cream inside and bad quality or badly stewed strawberries. Not recommended in the slightest....
