For our late lunch, we headed to Pantos Kairou, a 30 minutes walk away from Chania Old Town. When we arrived at 3:30pm the place was packed! Took us about 3 minutes before the staff told us that we could sit anywhere – they spoke in perfect English by the way.
After being seated, we took a while to scan through the menu. The order of the day was snails (12 euros), Chania specialty. We also had pork tenderloin (14 euros) with staka – a rich creamy sauce made from goat’s milk, another Chania specialty. Lastly, we had the house wine at 0.5l for 4euros. We had both the red and white this time.
The pork tenderloin with staka was generous. The size of the tenderloin was bigger than the palm of our hand. On top of that, the pork had a pretty thick cut. Yet, the tenderloin remained tender and juicy. Together with the staka, it was delicious! As for the snail, we love the herb and olive that the snails were stir-fried in. The snails were well-cooked and had the chewy texture, similar to that of escargots. Enjoyed it. By the time we finished the wines, we were already a little tipsy and to round up the meal, we were served a flask of raki – a distilled alcoholic drink that some say are slightly stronger than vodka. There were also some chocolate/bread dessert that reminded us of Sara Lee, served complimentary with Raki at the end of the meal. In total, the meal came up to 36 euros...

Read moreMy wife and I had a terrific dinner here off the beaten path! The staff was very friendly and unexpectedly had an English menu and we communicated well enough. Let me affirm the other reviews that the portions are enormous and we shared everything, it is very affordable! The waiter brought delicious toasted whole wheat bread drizzled with local oil for the table. The Greek salad was the best we’ve had on our trip with the cretan soft cheese. The waiter recommended the lamb and beef kebabs with a savory tomato jam with cheese which were very good. It came with perfect French fries and toasted pita bread. We received a complimentary carafe of raki and a few pieces of fruit to finish our meal. Well worth the adventure and we would highly recommend. An important note to eat outside to avoid the cigar and cigarette smoke inside. We walked but you can park in the supermarket...
Read moreMe and my gf were very hungry when we found a nice local restaurant on google maps. We arrived and i liked the fact that we could park right next to it, a supermarket across the street. We ordered a starter and two mains, but we got the starter in the middle of our mains so i rejected it, since we already were half way through our main course. The food by the way was delicious and good portions. I gave the atmosphere only a 3 star rating (very subjective), cause i dont like loud music when im eating. The waitress was very nice and friendly. When i asked for the receipt i got it written in greek and 30 euros, i asked if she included the starter which i rejected, and she said oh yes im sorry, its 24 instead. I found it strange haha but i can believe that she just forgot cause of the crowdy restaurant. Waitress was very polite though. I would come again because of...
