It was the most successful culinary experience in Greece. If you are in Chania try once to convince yourself. You will definitely come back to this restaurant. Unfortunately, I discovered this place on the last day of vacation in Crete, therefore (this year) we will not be able to enjoy the other dishes. Without any exaggeration, I believe that this restaurant deserves a Michelin star. I will take the necessary time to detail why I believe this: 1)The FOOD: A) The ingredients are carefully chosen, obtained from biological or organic sources. B)The ingredients and flavors in a dish are balanced, so that some do not overshadow others. C) Local ingredients are combined with Mexican ones (or are Mexican ingredients grown in Crete) so that you have a fusion cuisine where the flavors of ingredients from both countries support each other. D) Because the ingredients used are of high quality, they have minimized ingredient wastage. For example, the pulp of a mango is used in some sauce and the peel is dehydrated and made into powder and is also used on the plate to amplify the taste of the sauce. E) The kitchen is open, you can see exactly what they are doing. There are very few restaurants of this type. I will stop here în order to describe the other aspects as well. 2) SERVICE: For me, not only the quality of the food is important, but also the service. If the staff are not involved in what they are doing and are not in the mood to explain to you what they have (as happened to me in France, in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where the waiter at a restaurant focused on French cheeses said that he doesn't have time to explain to me what types of cheese he is going to bring on a plate) or they are arrogant people, the dishes don't have the expected taste either. In the case of this restaurant, the owner himself (Dimitris) is involved in the preparation of the dishes and even takes the time (when he can) to serve the dishes and to explain what ingredients he has chosen for that dish and why. Another employee, Gregory, helped me choose the cocktail that would match the dishes served. You notice that all the employees are passionate about what they do. And Dimitris is a very cool and positive person who manages to convey his mood to both employees and customers. ATMOSPHERE: Even if it is in the city you can have the impression that you are in an oasis. The restaurant is bordered by the surrounding streets with plants. The interior is beautifully decorated with objects appropriate to the style of the restaurant. Another detail that proved to me that in this restaurant they are passionate about what they do was the fact that when we arrived at the restaurant, Dimitris was using "Palo Santo" wood to fragrance the restaurant (see photo). Therefore, I had a very good experience and would love to come back.

🌮 A Taste of Mexico with a Mediterranean Soul – A Culinary Gem on Crete 🇬🇷🇲🇽 No vacation feels complete without the thrill of hunting down great Mexican food—and this time, our cravings led us to a hidden treasure we discovered online. With a few clicks, we booked a table and arrived 20 minutes early, greeted by a warm and professional waiter who instantly set the tone for the evening. He shared the story behind the restaurant: a fusion of Greek and Mexican culinary traditions, crafted by chefs who travel to Mexico for inspiration and even grow authentic Mexican herbs at home. The ingredients are sourced locally, and you can taste the freshness in every bite. 🥭 The Dishes? A Fiesta of Flavors: • Ceviche: Hands down the best we’ve had on Crete. Sea bass bathed in lime and mango sauce, with peach, avocado, red chili, and red onion dancing on the plate. A tropical symphony. • Tacos: Tempura shrimp meets local bacon in a crispy shell, paired with a mysterious sauce and a wedge of fresh lime. Unexpected, yet addictive. • Tuna Tostadas: Topped with a “secret sauce” that we’re still dreaming about. • Guacamole: Freshly made, served with crunchy tostadas—simple, honest, and utterly satisfying. 🍷 Drinks to Match the Magic: • A beautifully balanced Greek Rosé that complemented the meal like a summer breeze. • And the star of the show: a signature pink Margarita with a chili and salt rim—bold, refreshing, and unforgettable. ✨ The ambiance was relaxed yet refined, with staff who knew their craft and made us feel genuinely welcome. If this place had been closer to our hotel, we’d have returned again and again. If you’re craving Mexican cuisine with a Mediterranean twist, this spot is a must-visit. It’s not just a meal—it’s a journey.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of dining at Matzenta, and what a pleasure it was! If you’re looking for the usual Tex-Mex style food this is definitely NOT your place! But if you like to explore a culinary journey between Mexico and Crete with incredible tasty dishes, then this beautiful place will be a true find for you. We had THE best Gazpacho in the world, a mouthwatering peach and tomato salad with fresh herbs, a flavour explosion of a Ceviche platter, a traditional fishermen’s dish which was composed and de-constructed from traditional Mexican and Cretan recipes, an organic pulled pork taco with amazing dips and seductive desserts. Owner Dimitris explains every dish with such passion, you can taste his love for food and hospitality in each bite. The interior design is beautifully done with handpicked turn of the century to 1930s vintage furniture and beautiful details in every corner. The music is definitely worth a mention as you can hear that a lot of thought has been put into the audio concept, too: think 1940s Latin Jazz and Bossa vibes. Love, love, love. ❤️
