Mandas — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

Firstly, we were disappointed as we entered a restaurant. An older man, who seemed to be the owner, didn’t acknowledge us at all when we walked in—even when we greeted him. His unwelcoming attitude left a very negative first impression.

While the portion sizes were generous, the food itself wasn’t particularly flavorful. What was especially disappointing was that the sauces for two completely different dishes we ordered were exactly the same. The person taking our order could have at least informed us about this.

Great authentic place, like authentic for real… close to the port (outside of Chania), where the atmosphere is quiet, not touristic at all and most of the people dinning around are locals. Food was super fresh and tasty. Salads are huge and one is enough for two. We had grilled sardines (amazing), shrimps (omg) and cuttlefish (also quite nice). Great variety of seafood! Prices are like okay, not cheap, not smth extra - around 50 euro for the two of us. The staff is the 5th star…three people running the place like movie characters 🤍 All dishes came fast. The food was great and a lot and we took: •Octopus cooked in wine • fava • Greek salad • zucchini flowers stuffed with rice • feta gratin • Wine 1/2L • water All for 33€, which I think it’s a nice price for all we ate. The only thing is that I think we had some important people sitting behind us (everyone would pass by and wave at them and knew who they were) so they served them before us even though they arrived a lot later.
