the “Meating" — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at The Meating, a Cretan gem that turned out to be our favorite restaurant in all of Greece thus far. As we walked up the steps, we were warmly greeted by Nic, who immediately made us feel at home. Nic is not only personable but also passionate about the restaurant, which is both family-owned and family-run—a detail that really adds to the charm and authenticity of the experience.

Nic went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect spot to enjoy the soon-to-be setting sun, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable meal. We were eager to try some local dishes, and Nic’s recommendations did not disappoint. For starters, we indulged in Kalitsounia with Mizithra cheese and another with greens, and Tzatziki alongside a refreshingly crisp tomato and cucumber salad, all made with locally sourced ingredients. Every bite was a testament to the fresh and flavorful produce of Crete.

For the mains, I opted for the chicken souvlaki portion, while my wife chose the gyro portion. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, with tender, juicy meat that was bursting with flavor.

one of the best restaurants in town... very friendly, very good service, the food is very tasty and reasonably priced, you always feel welcome and treated like a guest, we've been there five times, after that you became more like a friend treated :-) there was always something on the house, be it fresh melon or a raki, it was always freshly cooked and the quality of the food was always excellent, very good and cheap, a clear recommendation... oh and it's always plentiful ;-) to eat there, so you can easily share the salad...

The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Hard working family run business with good food and good table space. There was a wide selection of dishes mainly for meat eaters and the Gyros was amazing. The food was served quickly. Nick who was the waiter was very friendly and interested.
