During our recent visit to Crete, my family and I had the pleasure of dining at Ambrosia Taverna, a gem of a restaurant located right by the sea. The location itself is stunning, offering not only breathtaking views but also a refreshing breeze thanks to the restaurant's well-designed windows and adjustable roof.We arrived for an early dinner without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised to be seated within just two minutes. The service was prompt and welcoming, which set the tone for a wonderful dining experience. For starters, we ordered sardines, fried cheese (the absolutely best❤️), steamed mussels, and stuffed vine leaves. Each dish was prepared to perfection, bursting with authentic flavours that highlighted the freshness of the ingredients. Moving on to the main course, we opted for lamb chops, pork, and pizza. The quality of the food was outstanding—tender, flavourful, and clearly cooked with care.To accompany our meal, we had a half-litre of the house white wine, a large bottle of sparkling water, and pineapple juice for the kids. The wine was crisp and paired beautifully with the seafood, enhancing the overall dining experience.Portions were generous, so much so that we couldn't finish everything. Thankfully, the staff provided proper boxes for the leftovers without any hesitation. The bill, including tips, totalled 90 euros, which we found to be reasonable for the quality and quantity of food we received. As a delightful surprise, once we paid the bill, we were treated to fresh fruits and a traditional Cretan drink on the house—an unexpected but much-appreciated gesture that truly was the cherry on top of a fantastic meal.Overall, my family had an excellent experience at Ambrosia Taverna. The food, atmosphere, and service were all top-notch, and we left with absolutely no complaints. It's a place we would highly recommend to anyone visiting Crete, both for its delicious food and its beautiful...

Ambrosia Taverna, located in Gournes, Crete, is a charming restaurant offering delightful views and a pleasant Greek atmosphere. Situated right by the sea, it provides a beautiful setting for a meal, complete with the soothing sounds of the waves. The taverna also includes a play area for children, making it a family-friendly spot.During our visit, we ordered gyros, souvlaki, and two salads. The gyros were excellent, served with extra yogurt as requested, and everything was delicious. Unfortunately, the souvlaki was overly salty. Upon informing the waiter, he promptly offered to replace the dish, and we received a less salty souvlaki at no extra cost. The staff were very courteous and accommodating throughout our meal.At the end of our meal, the restaurant graciously provided us with complimentary watermelon and cherries, adding a sweet touch to our dining experience. The prices were reasonable, making it a good value for the quality of food and service.Overall, Ambrosia Taverna is a great choice if you're in the area, especially if you enjoy dining with a view and appreciate good...

Food was good, service could be better - walked in without a reservation but were given a table, which we appreciated. But it took quite a while for our order to be taken, once it was taken the food did come out relatively quickly. But after that we waited a while again and eventually had to wave down a waiter to ask for the bill. It was quite hard to get their attention. It was busy, perhaps this is the reason for the poor service. However I have a feeling the restaurant staff care more for their regulars because I noticed tables around us were receiving better service than us, and at some point it seemed like we were purposely being ignored. This is fine with me, I just won’t come back. Nevertheless, the food was good and slightly made up for...

Recommended this local Taverna as a great place to eat by the hotel. Described as local fresh food. The restaurant was empty on arrival at lunch, but the welcome was quick and sincere. There was a cool sea breeze coming in which was refreshing on the hot day. The bottles of wine were over priced so we went for the keraf which was good value and nice. The mixed starters were ok, the standout was the meatballs and vine leaf demadas. Don't go for the pizza, the bases are dryer than the hot beach we just came from. The main courses we're ok again, Kleftiko was a good option but stranglt had no tomato, but the pasta, pizza, and lamb chops were nothing special. Four of us to eat was about €100. All in all, I was a bit disappointed as this was recommended.
