Back when I was a kid, this place was infamous amongst friends for its apparent bad food. Now that I've grown up, what do I think about it? Is it truly that bad?
I must preface by saying that I am not going to talk about the staff or the overall atmosphere of the place. They were both pretty alright.
I'm going to talk about the food. And more importantly a discovery that made me disappointed:
The very fact they do not use coal or anything of the sorts. Which is singlehandedly one of the worst decisions I've seen.
Not only will that make some of the dishes involving meat very, very strange, but that smokey flavour that can be formed on the grill will be entirely absent and that'll be so disappointing.
But okay, with a frying pan you can still make good meals, right? Especially steaks.. with some butter, maybe some garlic. Tasty, hm?
Except when I tried to eat a souvlaki there, not only was the taste nonexistent but also the meat had no juice behind it.
So if you're not going to give me a souvlaki or meat on the grill and you're not going to give me a meat done properly on a frying pan, what exactly am I paying for?
As for the fries? Very very oily. Let them rest both after and before preparing them. I'd rather wait extra if I'm going to get a nice meal.
I didn't want to come to this conclusion, but unfortunately this tavern left me extremely disappointed. Maybe the...
Read moreBeen to Crete multiple times and this taverna is the best we’ve found. Staff working were so friendly and smiley and made you feel really relaxed and welcome and spoke amazing English. Happy to help answer questions to do with local events etc and not just the food.
Food was superb. This is the first time my wife and I have been to Greece as vegetarians and it’s been a little bit of a struggle tbh unless you want pizza every night, but the waitress explained everything they did and what they could do to accommodate us. Ended up having vegetarian gyros (chips, salad, tzatziki, cheese) and stuffed vegetables with rice (stuffed tomatoes absolutely phenomenal) All exceptional and really fresh and tasty. All the meat eaters also said the same. Superb value at €70 for a family of 6 with soft drinks and beers. Will definitely be returning before we go home and when we come back next year. Lots of locals eating in and takeaway orders flying out the door so...
Read moreAbsolutely superb grill house, we came here mid April just looking for a grill house for a pita gyros at lunchtime on route to Kato Gouves as was early for accommodation and by luck was one of very few open, It's opposite the Mitsi Hotel and obviously was early in season and has few tourists eating in, probably because it hasn't the blue and white authentic tourist trap, but lots of Greeks and telephone orders, came back quite a lot as the food was superb,Had soutzokakia , goat in red sauce was lovely,Had gyros pita each which were huge tuna salad to share and a litre of wine and cost just over 20 euro, the prices are too low for the quality and size of food, the waitresses were lovely and thank you for the afters and Raki, this is a rare untouristic taverna grill house, you just need to go in and eat proper good quality food at an amazing price Many thanks...
