Horrible, horrible place. When there are many one-star reviews on a place, and the reviewers were motivated to write a long review, you best believe the Comos Tarverna is bad, really bad. I cannot judge the food as we did not get that far in the process of what the employees call "service", so I will refrain discussing that.
The vibe when we arrived was not good. We sat at one of the tables in the shade, but because it was end-of-October, we decided to move to a table in the sun that was just getting available. This was not to the liking of one of the waitresses, who made a very unfriendly "request" that we put the chairs right back where they were before we sat on them. We literally were at the old table for less than a minute. We complied, and moved to the new table. Before she would take our order, the waitress complained that we should not move again, because she keeps cleaning the tables. This escalated in an unfriendly discussion where we argued that we did not touch any thing, after which we asked (nay, pleaded) if we were allowed to eat there. The reaction of the waitress made me lose my appetite to actually eat there, so I got up to leave and asked my family to do the same. The waitress was very irate, and started kicking our shoes (which some of us already took off, it is a beach after all) through the establishment. I was shocked of this very un-Greek-like behaviour, and really felt threatened because my family (with two young kids) were still sitting there. When I called out her improper behaviour towards her customers (to be fair, I might have dropped an f-bomb there), she actually grabbed me forcefully and threatened me. Within seconds, the second waitress (apparently her sister) was joining in the shouting match, and her father rushed out of the kitchen to join the mayhem. I can only imagine how weird it must have been for the customers that were already eating there.
Honestly, this was my worst ever experience in the catering business in my whole life (and I come from a family that includes restaurant and hotel owners)! I actually wondered if they might have noticed where we parked our car, and was really relived that obviously she didn't because I was afraid she might key the rental car...
So glad we took our business to the much cosier Bunga Bunga (it's just 30 meters further, so walk on people!), where the vibe was more chilled.
I don't know what the 5-star reviews are blabbing about, with their "Michelin star food" and "friendly staff". They must be either family of the owners, Chinese buy-a-review entries or...
Read moreWorst place to visit between Kissamos and Matala. The facility is not very clean. The menu is poor, without photos and descriptions, only the names of the dishes. Very slow service. While waiting for the menu, I saw how shrimp were brought to the next table, to put it mildly, unappetizing. I immediately concluded that it is better not to take fish and seafood products. I decided to take just a salad. I chose cheese salad. In half an hour they brought something. There was no cheese, and you can't even call it a salad. Outwardly, it looks like tzatziki, but it tastes not like food at all, at most it can be a seasoning for some dish. To the question "What is it?" they answered with irritation that in each region of Crete, cheese salad is prepared differently, but in their village it is exactly like this. Instead of explaining what it was made of, the employee started yelling like a hysteric. Moreover, she believes that she has a right to touch clients. She grabbed my hand. Her hands were dirty and sweaty. It’s good that I didn’t eat, because this vile touch of the village rudeness caused an attack of nausea. And with these very hands they serve food. I personally saw how bread is cut without gloves, I am sure that gloves are not used when cooking. In general, I wanted to call the police, but knowing the Greek speed, it would have taken a whole day. By the way, the tourists that we brought to Kommos that day were also dissatisfied, noting the slow service and poor quality of food. From now on we will strongly recommend our customers to avoid this taverna. And I generally don't recommend it to anyone. If you get hungry, a nearby cafe sells good pizza and pasta. And the Kommos beach itself is just an...
Read moreBeautiful location on one of the best beaches, but everything else is disappointing. Prices are sky-high (e.g. €6 for a tiny fries or €5 for a simple snall ice cream cone). The food I tried was consistently bad — last year a Greek coffee and kadaif, this year a €5 ice cream, all terrible. On top of that, staff were aggressive when I questioned the beer size - they serve a “0.5l” in a beach glass that clearly isn’t and is equal to a small beer glass (0.33l). I was shouted at and told to leave. Reading other reviews now, it seems this kind of anger and ranting from the staff is a common issue. Great spot, but overpriced, poor quality, and very unprofessional, better go to the neighbouring bar, "Bunga bunga", better quality and polite people...
