Read moreExcellent customer service from our friendly, polite and knowledgeable waitress cannot offset an overall bizarre experience. I visit my childhood neighborhood once or twice a year and this time one of my best friends introduced me to Kudu. There is absolutely nothing special about the place at first site but it looked like a decent place to grab a coffee and catch up on the events of the last two years. This otherwise relaxing and pleasant “ritual” has been repeated numerous times in the last 30+ years since I crossed the pond for the first time, every time I reunite with my loved ones. Unfortunately, this time it was disturbed by Kudu’s policy (?) to refuse adding cinnamon to my cappuccino. To be clear, there is no policy against sugar, or milk (as far as I gathered) but when it comes to cinnamon Kudu seems to draw the line. I am still scratching my head, between laughs, but our servant explained that kudu does not add cinnamon to coffee. Effectively, they seem to prefer losing customers who naively think they can order their coffee any way they want than providing a small cinnamon container. I don’t give three star reviews typically but I think in this case it represents a generous score given the store location, the kind service, the decent coffee flavor and the Monty Python policy on cinnamon. Now if kudu was back in Brooklyn I would encourage them to get their sh*t together and focus on their customer who is what...
Read moreFriday three weeks ago, day before lockdown, a cold day, gale blowing, cloudy, no sun. A day for the Metro, visit the suburbs. Also the last day this would be possible, as would not be able to travel on the Metro during lockdown, or at least not without a plausible excuse and prior consent.
I had visited Kudu a yea ago. A similar day. Time for a revisit, as somewhat out of the way and requires a trip on the Metro to a not very pleasant area.
Kudu was surprisingly very busy for a coffee shop in lockdown, takeaway only. Coffee shops, restaurants, bars had been ordered to close on Tuesday, earlier in the week, could only serve takeaway.
Have a takeaway coffee and a bite to eat.
New Synesso espresso machine. They have bought two for lockdown. They expect to be busy.
The shelves were almost bare, restocked whilst I was there. But why bring boxes of coffee in large cardboard boxes, to then throw away, why not reuse the boxes? Why bring coffee in bags, why not in large reusable food grade plastic boxes for coffee brewed in the coffee shop?
Coffee on the shelves has meaningless best by, even worse a date that is two years hence. Best by is meaningless for coffee. Only meaningful date is the roast date.
Last year, The Underdog coffee in Nespresso capsules. Kudu doing the same.
Why stock tea pigs? Not...
