Where to begin....I'm glad I didn't start my Greek vacation at Rousakis as I would have had a bad first impression of the people of Crete. Upon taking a table I was surprised by a barking dog sitting in a chair next to what looked like the owner of the place counting money at one of the tables. The dog barked throughout our dining experience and lunged at another diner on her way to the restroom. Ordered two half liters of beer, lemonade, dolmas and herb cakes. The dolmas were about the size of my little finger. Smallest dolmas I saw in Greece. (See picture of dolmas). The herb cakes were mediocre and overcooked. I received two 330ml beers. For the duration of our lunch, several male employees spent most of their time eyeballing all the ladies walking by the front of the place and commenting on them to each other. When I received the receipt I was charged for the large beers and had to have the waiter correct the bill to reflect small beers. Check your receipt against your order here. I should have checked their reviews before sitting down as they clearly would have prevented us from eating...
Read moreUpon entering the establishment, I was greeted rather unfriendly by an elderly gentleman, who appeared to be the manager. After taking my seat, I asked for the drinks menu. Instead, I was handed a small card listing only a few lemonades – each priced at ten euros.
Since I actually wanted to order a soft drink and a coffee, I requested the regular drinks menu. Once it was finally brought to me, the waiter informed me that it was not possible to order coffee or a soft drink – I was required to order a cocktail.
Even though the menu clearly listed various beverages, including coffee and soft drinks, the staff insisted that only cocktails priced at ten euros or more could be ordered. This situation struck me not only as unusual but also as rather embarrassing for the staff themselves.
Such a practice, in my view, amounts to a mixture of deception and coercion: guests are effectively forced to consume overpriced drinks while being denied the freedom of choice. If this practice is indeed in place, it should urgently be reviewed by the relevant...
Read moreFamily of four on our way home decided to drop in as it was convenient. From the start it felt off the man was trying to up sell everything to me. I asked for toasties and he said he didn't have any and only the more expensive toastie he had. Which was a mix of bacon and cheese salad. He couldn't supply just a ham and cheese toastie. When questioned he said he ran out of butter in the morning. He was smoking and talking in front of me and my children whilst trying to eat. Charging 5 euro for a can of fanta. When we went to pay the bill he tried to over charge us by 6 euro. The man who clearly thinks we are stupid English tourists. Which is an insult to my intelligence as i was one step a head and had already calculated the bill total before paying. When questioned he begain acting as if someone went wrong when adding it up. Don't ever go to this restaurant. If you can take from a family with two young children then you are the scum of...
