I recently had the pleasure of dining at Taverna Argo, a place that truly feels authentic and genuine. Unlike many restaurants that mainly cater to tourists, this taverna is clearly a favorite among locals – which is always a promising sign. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, and it immediately set the tone for a memorable evening.
The meal started with a fish soup, which was nothing short of excellent. It was rich in flavor, perfectly balanced, and comforting, with a depth that revealed both freshness and skillful preparation. Following that, I tried the buyurdi, a traditional Greek dish made with baked feta, peppers, and tomatoes. It was bursting with local aromas and flavors – the kind of dish that highlights the best of simple, quality ingredients.
For the main course, I chose the sea bass, which turned out to be exceptionally fresh and perfectly cooked. The fish was tender, flavorful, and served in a way that allowed its natural taste to shine through. Everything was complemented by a glass of local white wine, which paired beautifully with the seafood and enhanced the overall experience.
The service was also excellent: attentive, friendly, and genuinely hospitable without being intrusive. The staff made me feel welcome and comfortable, adding to the sense of authenticity that defines Taverna Argo.
Overall, this was a truly rewarding dining experience – a perfect blend of local flavors, warm service, and an atmosphere that reflects the spirit of the region. Highly...
Read moreWe went to this place as unfortunately many other tavernas in this street closed permanently. Unfortunately, we should have gone a little while longer. The food took a long time and lacked taste. The fish (calamari) was chewy.
The service was no good. Even though the taverna was not full the waiter couldn’t handle the guests and their orders. Often forgot stuff and we needed to remind him. For just a bit of food we payed a bit over 50€ which is a lot for Greek food. To get to the toilet you need to get through something that is similar to a backstore where the food is organized. A bit weird. Wouldn’t go...
Read moreYou HAVE TO give this place a try! Don't be fooled by the unassumingly low key appearance of this traditional Greek taverna restaurant. They are just the best!! Have been visiting Argo for the last 20 years and everything has stayed the same (and I say that in the nicest way possible)! Food quality is top notch!! Everything is freshly prepared, portions are generous to say the least and excellent value for money. Service is friendly and attentive. I could go on and on but the bottom line...
