After giving this fish restaurant a miss for more than ten years, I found myself back in an island feel garden, secluded from traffic and with a degree of privacy.
It was a pleasant early summer evening and the Jasmin flowers were in full blossom.
There are about 40 to 50 tables of different sizes. We were seated on a lightly elevated corner table.
Once our friends arrived, we selected some cut pieces of a very large sea bream (dorade rose, fagri) as we did not want an entire fish.
Then, we had to wait for more than 30 minutes to order as only one lady, who must have been the co-owner, takes food orders. Thereafter, the food arrived quickly.
Many loved the strawberry infused ceviche and the warm salad was nice. The 'gyros' made of grouper (rofos) was blended with a sauce creating an interesting combination of flavour and texture.
Our friends shared home-made gnocchi with crayfish and there had been some other interesting seafood pasta variations.
But I was longing for a piece of grilled fish. It was nicely served.
Unfortunately, it was way overcooked. This happens more often than not in Greek restaurants, even when they try to be high end.
As it was already late and we were quite hungry, I ate it all. My wife left some as it was too dry and chewy.
When asked at the end, how the experience was, I was direct about the overcooked fish. The owner did not do much about it and tried more to blame us clients for not saying this earlier than to make up for it. How sad.
Probably more emphasis was given to the famous gastronomy reviewer who was there with a TV chef.
All in all, this is more about show than essence. An expensive hangout for people wanting to go out to an al fresco environment, and who do not care much about fish.
I will be back in...
Read moreAfter a beautiful day spent in Kifissia, my partner and I decided to pop in to have some fresh fish and seafood. We were greeted by the lovely couple who own the place, the restaurant was buzzing and full of life, the room was filled with happy people, people who looked like they were having a great time, and we were about to join them! There was so much care and love put in the food and service that words are not just, you must go there to experience it yourself! We had the tarama the ceviche and cherry tomato salad, followed by a beautifully grilled steak of fish of the day. Everything was on time and paired with a very nice bottle of Gewurtztraminer by Merisopetra, from the mountains of Arkadia, a must try!!! Overall one of the nicest family run fish restaurant in Athens not to be mistaken for a tavern or mediocrity, looking forward to my next visit! Don’t think twice! Thank you...
Read moreChromata Vythou is the only restaurant I’ve consistently visited since 2018 — and not once have I had a bad experience. The flavors are always amazing, and the consistency is unmatched. Last year’s sweet cookies & more corner at the entrance is a must-try and adds such a warm welcome to the experience.
The summer backyard is hands down the best spot in the northern suburbs — cozy, elegant, and perfect for relaxing nights. Huge credit to Vicky and Manos, who are always there, making sure every guest feels like a VIP. Exceptional food, service, and atmosphere — every single time. This restaurant...
