Vathis — Restaurant in Municipality of Kifisia

Often in Greece, you can find restaurants that are specifically aimed at tourists, adapting their menu according to their wants. This restaurant however seeks to uphold the mouth-watering, traditional cuisine of the Greek isles. Instantly when you walk in you are greeted with the pleasant demeanour of the staff, many of which appear to work there for a great deal of time. The same can be said about the owner, the son of the founder. When we arrived, upon running out of English-printed menus, he allowed us to gaze into the heart of the restaurant – the kitchen – and see all of the spectacular dishes being made. After picking our fancy we were enfolded by the sheer beauty of the establishment, which is surrounded on all sides by the stunning greenery. As you may have guessed by my previous words, the food was exceptional. With meals ranging from lamb to veal and fish, everything was truly remarkable. After this experience, our understanding of Greek cuisine broadened, with the fog of over-priced, tourist-oriented restaurants with their limited dishes fading to reveal the eye-opening truth. If you are ever in the area, I wholeheartedly recommend enjoying a fantastic evening there, from one food lover to another. One thing to add though. Very nice old time classic taverna in an amazing spot full of trees with an amazing yard. The food was nice. The bigger complaint has to do with the waiters who were ALL rude and impolite middle aged people without even welcoming, smiling and talking to you! The first guy coming to our table just threw the bottle of water and the basket with the bread on the table without saying anything. I told him two times “hello” and he didn’t even bother to reply back! Only exception the guy to welcomed us at the yard and put us on our table who seemed to be the owner/manager! He was very polite and nice…all the rest…just…unacceptable! No reason to go there again…you can find a lot of nice places in Kifissia with much better food and environment! And of course much...

The food is good and well cooked/grilled. We tried several plates, a salad, rib eye, saganaki, cretan dakos in the form of a salad platter and pork tenderloin. We had no complaints at all regarding the taste and ingredient quality of our order. The quantity was decent as well. The yard style setting and the calm environment is a nice addition to the food good served. However we had a little issue with our order.
