Thalami — Restaurant in Municipality of Kissamos

I was expecting high things after reading all the reviews but this place did not live up to the expectations I read about. They offered fresh fish dishes so I was expecting a decent meal. we ordered calamari which was not fried for long enough at all , it was chewy and rubbery far from fresh . And the fries we ordered were soggy and also under cooked. The place was empty ( should have been a warning sign ) they had plenty of time to cook them for long enough. Even after the meal was over the poor service continued , I got up to pay and was outright ignored even though she walked right past me 3 time ( again it was empty …. EMPTY ) And to top it all off we were charged for loads of hidden cost. If they where up front we would have been happy to pay them but they where sneaky and slimy by charging you right at...

The restaurant is beautiful and right at the beach. The owner, a very nice and bubbly gentleman with a mustache, welcomed us and chatted to us on a few occasions. What's amazing is that the sunbeds are free and the price only based on consumption, which I believe is the best. People will spend more when you don't have to pay for a "rent" for the sunbeds.

We moved to the taverna for the lunch and everything was very fresh. I am sure they handroll the dolmadakia in the restaurant a few minutes before being served. The calamari also tasted very nice. Cretan salad tasted super fresh in every mouthful which was full in flavour. I ordered the pork souvlaki which was also good and local. I recommend this place if you you are in the area! On the way back from Elafonisi we chose to take the route along the coast through Sfinari. We stopped at the beach in front of this restaurant to watch the sun set behind the cliffs. As we ate the grilled octopus and sea bream with fresh fries, we could watch the sky over the sea change colors as the sun must have finally set over the sea behind the cliffs. The food was freshly prepared by what seemed to be the owners of the tavern, while their two sons were waiting the tables.
