Exquisite, adventurous, modern Greek food. Creative, quality produce, excellent combinations of textures and flavours. Attention to detail, beautifully presented.

Sirocco's chefs utilise a unique concept of cooking in hot volcanic sand. Using a sandpit kitchen powered by geothermal energy, some dishes are cooked overnight.

We visited at lunchtime and enjoyed the clever watermelon salad, fresh produce of intense flavours. The magnificent sand cooked potatoes; a rye bruschetta of beets, pickled white anchovies, strained yoghurt and bottarga; grilled octopus with paprika paste. Thoroughly delicious and food coma inducing.

The wine list features some of Greece's best wines. There are aperitifs and cocktails, plus a couple of pleasant riffs on the local homemade limonada.

The staff are accustomed to tourists and spoke fluent English. Their service was the right mix of attentive and non intrusive. There are options for children, high chairs and we saw multiple families there who'd come to swim.

Sirocco is away from the towns, villages and residences on Paliochori beach. A long stretch of sand and pebbles on the Aegean. It's windy and in peak season has a lifeguard crew, watersports and allegedly a clothing optional section. But the wind doesn't affect diners under cover looking out over the beguiling clear water. The decor is stylish and clever, relaxed holiday ambiance.

After a leisurely session we plunged into the refreshing water to wake ourselves up enough to drive back to our accommodation for a siesta. That's as good as it gets on holiday, isn't it.

And yes that warrants the higher pricing....

Sirocco is the first place where we had dinner on the island and we just kept coming back! The service, the location and the food are fantastic! Great value for your money! The restaurant is just on the beach where all the tables offer a view towards the sea. The menu has both fish and meat dishes. They prepare some of them in the burning black volcanic sand (102degrees) just in front of the restaurant. The fish ( we tasted a grouper and a red snapper),the squid, grilled octopus, the lobster pasta - very very tasty! All recommended. The prices are quite acceptable considering the general level on the island. ( fresh fish goes at 65eu per kilo, but you will get the same price around the island and also in greece in general. Even in albania, where eating out is 3 times less expensive, so far we have paid about the same for wild fish. Quality has its costs, i guess). We discovered the Theopetra Estate wine at Sirocco (Originally from the region of Meteora). It married perfectly the fish meals we had and was indispensable for our aperitivos, dinners and late night drinking on the chez lounges in front of Sirocco. They had two types of Theopetra - malagouzia or malagouzia+assyrtiko, both delicious! Last but not least, the staff is pretty great! We know at seaside in Greece time passes differently. I wouldnt say they have kept us waiting but usually on holidays we dont keep much track of the watch either, we are just enjoying our time. This is the priority. The guys made us feel really welcomed and tried to meet any need we had! 10...

One word: “Wow!”

I surprised my husband by navigating us to this restaurant after a morning of beach-hopping. He had no idea that some of the foods were cooked beneath the volcanic sand. I had read reviews, but neither of us knew what to expect. Needless to say, we were truly blown away!

Now, we are a couple from NYC, which means that we have incredibly discerning palates. So when I say that both of us were blown away with every dish — we mean it — because we have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world.

Food: 10/10. We ordered the Greek salad (it was one of our top 3 Greek salads ordered in Greece). We also got the scallop souvlaki (my husband almost cried tears of joy when he ate it), the potatoes (also cooked in the volcanic sand), and the fresh catch of the day. OMG. Everything was fresh, delicious, and incredibly flavorful. Do NOT skip ordering the potatoes!! We heard that the lamb was also amazing, but we didn’t order it.

Service: 10/10. The staff were so friendly. We got a table right by the water right away. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming.

Atmosphere: 10/10. You’re by the water. What more could you ask for?

Go to this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!!! We both agree that this was our favorite, most delicious, and most memorable meal during our entire two weeks in Greece, despite having eaten at 3 fine dining establishments, too.

Thanks,...
