Great atmosphere, decor, and wonderful service. This Amvrosia restaurant is owned by the same person who owns the Platanos restaurant next door. Amvrosia’s menu is more traditional Greek food while Platanos is more international (servers said Platanos served pizza). We chose Amvrosia for the Greek food because we like to try the local foods when we can. This restaurant did not disappoint. Servers were friendly. The outdoor seating was also shaded under the trees for lunch.
They just switched over to the new seasonal menu two days ago so some things were not available. The tzatziki was so good. It came with an assortment of thick bread slices, and a tomato and olive oil sauce side. I originally ordered the mousukas and the server told me that the kalogeros was a similar dish, but the kalogeros was the Naxos version of the mousukas. The server also warned that both dishes are made fresh so it will take about 20 minutes to make. I changed my order to the kalogeros and it did not disappoint— although I will say it was better as left overs. When packing the left overs to take home, I did not take all the liquids and oil so my left overs at home was not as greasy. I also requested and ordered off Platanos’ drink menu and had the nespresso coffee with ice cream and the GM smoothie— both delicious. The server offered ordering off Plantano’s menu because they are next door and the same owner. My group also had the sausage platter, lemon roast lamb in clay pot (but it didn’t come in a clay pot so we are wondering if it was the same dish), local Naxian sausages, tomato beef stew, and pork chop. We also tried a Greek spongy, lemon cake that was a delightful end...
Read moreDon't go this place when it's overwhelmed. Me and my wife were there two times before. Food and attentiveness of the personnel were amazing! But then we came here on Sunday 17.10.21 when it was as crowded as can be. And all we've ordered was served wrong: 1. Single coffee instead of double; 2. French fries instead of grilled vegetables; 3. And the beef burger was served as alone cutlet, without brioche, sauce, vegetables, without anything you used to see on the plate when you order ordinary burger. The cutlet was dried and overcooked. What we really disliked is that the waiter said it's ok: it's their serving method for the burgers here. When we shown him the picture with normal burger which we found in Google Maps reviews for this place, he said they served it like that about three years ago (the pic from reviews was dated 3 months ago). When he asked how did we like it, I'd fairly told him, but we hadn't been suggested with any discount or complimentary. Ok, we understand you got lot of visitors, and we ready to wait or order something else if you're out of ingredients. But: Why to serve frankly bad cooked food and pretend that it should be so? Why not to write down the order instead of trying to remember by heart? My bad is that I forgot to make a pic of that "burger" to...
Read moreWe are vegetarian, so we got some fries with tzatziki, the Super Food salad and the Spinach and Mushroom risotti.
The fries were by far the best and crispiest we tried on the island and the salad was delicious. The tzatziki was alright, a little bit thinner than I like, but still good.
What really stood out was the risotti, which amazed us. The rice was perfectly cooked, super creamy and with deep flavours that stayed in your mouth for the whole day. They were so good that we visited the restaurant again a few days later just to get them one last time before we left Naxos!
The staff was very polite and attentive and the restaurant was placed in a little square on the main road of the village, under a large Plane tree, that gave a feeling of relaxation.
The dishes were not too cheap, but they were worth every cent.
The only negative input I could share, was that who I believe to be the owner of the restaurant was a little too present, and made us feel a little bit uneasy as it felt like we were being watched. I'm sure his goal was to make sure all of the guests were being cared for properly but it came out a bit pressing.
Overall...
