Came here after reading the great reviews but unfortunately our experience was very different. Arrived at 2:15 and ordered a crepe and some of the doughnuts (loukoumades) with icecream. Doughnuts with icecream are an option on the menu at €9. This was not a special request as the waitress is now saying in her response. Maybe she doesn’t know her own menu??? They must have forgotten about us,as by 3pm we still hadn’t received anything. At no point did we get told by any staff there would be a delay. At 3:10 the crepe arrived but no doughnuts. When the doughnuts finally arrived at 3:20, I tasted them and they were full of salt. I asked if there had been a mistake as they are supposed to be sweet but the waitress reassured me this was their recipe. I even asked the waitress to try them herself but she refused. If she had eaten them she would have seen what me and my partner could both clearly taste. Unfortunately they were too salty to be consumed so we declined their offer of honey/chocolate sauce on the side and asked for them to be removed from the bill. They all seemed to be annoyed about this including the grandma. We had no apology for the very long wait or the fact we were unhappy and when paying for the crepe, the family spoke to each other in Greek visibly annoyed with us which was upsetting especially as we had been very polite and patient. We have since asked other loukoumade makers who have said no salt should be used…only sugar or honey. They also stated that it takes 15 mins to make them - not over an hour. So on both counts something clearly went wrong.
In summary: don’t order the loukoumades or share your dissatisfaction if anything is wrong - everything else I’m...
Read moreWe were on an adventure to visit the beautiful little towns on Naxos. As we were learning more about the interior of the island, one of the last stops was a beautiful little town, Filoti.
While the family was walking about the city, I wanted some coffee and saw this cafe up some steps with Chairs ready and welcoming.
I walked in, and the young man (wish I remembered his name) greeted me and invited me to sit outside.
Got my order, and suggested the "Orange Pie". Because the fruit is AMAZING on Naxos, I said sure.
The portokalopita was stunning. Made by the owner's brother, this was one of the best desserts I think I have had, ever. I can't really describe the orange flavors, the texture of the cake. It was so absolutely unexpected and beautiful that we started eating it before we took a picture.
All I know is I would have loved to take an entire cake back home with us.
But then again, it probably would not make it to the next island much less California.
If you all figure a way to ship to California, I will be first in line!
Thank you all for a...
Read moreWe sat down hoping for a quick dessert but ended up waiting 25 minutes for coffee and 40 minutes for crepes without any prior notice.
It wasn’t just us. Another gentleman overheard us talking to the server and said he had been sitting for 10 minutes with no one coming to take his order, then decided to leave. Other tables also kept asking why their food hadn’t come out yet.
When we finally got our coffee, we were told the crepes were coming soon, but they didn’t. We asked twice, and the second time they even asked if we wanted to take the crepes to go. Who comes to this café just to take out food? The whole reason people come here is to dine in and enjoy the vibe.
In the end, the food was tasty and the vibe was great, so I didn’t want to leave a negative review. But for travelers who are on a schedule, I would recommend...
